Panthers Sign Michael Oher

"Oher was one of the worst offensive tackles in football last season. Pro Football Focus ranked him 50th among 54 eligible tackles in its pass-blocking efficiency metric, the fifth straight season he's fallen outside of the top 30. Long viewed as a below-average pass-blocker, his 2014 campaign all but ended his chances of having a guaranteed starting spot.

Over the last three seasons, the first two being in Baltimore, Oher allowed 27.5 sacks, per The Washington Post . It's possible Oher would have had his third straight season with 10 or more sacks allowed had he not missed the last five games with a toe injury

The pass-blocking woes do not appear to be going away, and while Oher has ability as a run-blocker, it's only sporadically there on film. ... According to Pro Football Focus ' grading system, Oher has gotten progressively worse each season. More disconcertingly, Oher hasn't been a net-positive player since that initial campaign. ... He'll likely compete for the starting right tackle spot [for the Panthers] while working on the type of deal where it isn't too complicated to move on if necessary."

Not sure who the negative nancy's wanted us to pick-up this early in the off-season.      Bulaga is the best available tackle once FA officially begins......and he will probably cost an arm and a leg,  since he is only a little bit sucky.

 

The tackles under Bulaga......have basically been horrible or old...  So..it's going to be a crapshoot no matter who we pick up.   Even Bulaga is a massive gamble.

Well he in effect goes after BPAs who can have the most impact. The ones with the most impact in the first typically fill the most vital holes a la KB and Star. After the first, the BPA method is clear...but for a 1st round investment, it tends to revolve around a major need regardless of the draft strategy.

the beauty of going BPA, especially in the first several rounds, is the player is almost guaranteed to have a big Impact on the team.

I understand what you are saying. But, he made his point with the 53 previous quotes that he posted. He had a point at first...now he is just coming across as a douche.

Nobody is disputing the dude has had several bad seasons.

Talent wise, he's the best tackle we've had since Otah.

He's healthy, and has back with his best oline coach.

Seriously, that's a lot to like.

Not expecting him to be an all pro.

he doesn't have to be, for this to be a success.

Seriously.

I wouldn't have a problem with not signing a FA tackle.

 

We're pained into a corner in that we have to acquire a good OT. The alternative is possibly watching Cam screaming and clutching his knee or some other body part. Chandler (terrible), a player Gettleman gave a 2 year contract to and RR started, came inches away from destroying Cam's knees on several occasions. I don't believe in signing terrible players to our team. Gettleman does. He signed terrible WRs, and then blamed our cap problems after the fact. Now we've signed a terrible OT. I bitched about it. You're damn right.

I've watched the 1st 2 games of Oher from last season. If you watched them, you would definitely say he's a lot better than Bell. NFL Game Pass is the poo

sure about that? because Oher allows more sacks per snap than Bell does. At RT, Oher allowed 1 sack per 108-109 snaps, while at RT, Bell only allowed 1 sack per 116-118 snaps. At LT, Oher allowed 1 sack per 92 snaps, while Bell only allowed 1 sack per 109 sacks
