Jacoby Jones signs with Chargers

Jones is very concerning because he fit our mold of the type of FAs we sign and he filled a huge need in the return game, if we can't even land a guy like Jones then who are we going to land?

I think Gettleman made a mistake making his dollar tree comment, he should have lowered expectations and still beat the "we are still cap challenged" comment to not get hopes up

No he didn't - he's an expensive return specialist who contributed nothing but drops as a WR last year. And who's to say that he would have even considered Carolina, for whatever reason?

Calm down brother.  They're working on some things, but may not go as planned.

#Panthers are hoping to get a couple pieces of business done before Tues. Oher is one, Ginn/Jones the other. Jones gone, Ginn won’t be easy.

My dream scenario is we sign Andre Johnson. Please do not give KB the Smitty treatment and leave him out there on a island by himself his entire career.

Ginn would be a nice pick up but nothing more, Harvin can't stay healthy and I'm not the biggest Torrey Smith fan. I imagine Johnson can be had for a lot cheaper than Cobb and AJ can still win on the outside and would be a nice veteran addiction teams have to account for.

Gettleman has shown that he doesn't mind stopgaps and rentals if needed. AJ isn't my first choice, but there's no reason to think its not at least a possibility.

Well, San Diego has a return man now. And they resigned their quality left tackle. Pretty good off season for them so far. They have a new GM too: Tom Telesco, who became their GM in Jan 2013. Before that, he was the Vice President of Football Operations with the Indianapolis Colts from 1998 to 2012, the last six years of which he was also the team’s Director of Player Personnel. Young guy too, only 42 years old.

Marshall was drafted during the Truman administration and Jones sucks.

I certainly hope they werent the standard.

Jones is one of the best returners in the NFL.

He replaces Royal. Not sure if thats an upgrade though

Royal is certainly the better WR.

I think he's doing a pretty good job, but by the time they get enough talent there to compete, Rivers will be on his last legs.

I like Ginn but at this point what the hell man. Unless we're only offering him peanuts I don't see why he wouldn't want to come back here. He had his most successful season with us it just wouldn't make any sense for him to choose someone else if the offer isn't substantially larger.

Have you considered that he is going to play hardball with the Panthers because he feels a certain amount of disrespect for not getting what he thought that he should have the first time around?

I can easily see him balking at what he considers a low ball offer this time. You know, money at many times is equated to appreciation, or lack thereof.

Understandable but at the same time was he worth what he got from Arizona? He was released 1 year in to the deal he signed with them last year. If he's asking for what he got last year then I wouldn't blame the FO for not resigning him. That would then likely mean we'd have yet another rookie returning kicks a move I'm not too fond of.

Out of the realistic options (other than draft now), if AJ is even realistic, who would be your first choice? Obviously, like you intimated, he is getting up in age, but I believe he has a couple of good years left in the tank. Sure he fell off last year, but the QB play was horrid, and he still got over 900 yards. In 2013, Johnson got over 1400 yards. That is remarkable.
