Honestly im surprised they are in this poor of cap shape in ONE year after a spending spree. There was also a pretty big jump in cap space.

 

They really tried to go all in to try to make another Super Bowl push before Brees is done.  Dumbasses couldn't even manage to make it to the playoffs in the weakest division in the NFL last year.  I reckon they're going to continue to push money back to make room to try to capitalize on Brees' final years with the hope that the massive cap relief they'll get when Brees retires will offset it.

They did the contracts on purpose to fit under last season. Most of the big deals they gave out last off season has a large roster bonus that will get converted to a signing bonus.

For instance Galette has a 12.5 roster bonus due third day of league year.
