Westbrook is the best PG in the NBA

Recommended Posts

I been saying Westbrook was the most important player on the Thunder for a while. Everybody saying Durant was the MVP last year, when he wasn't even the MVP to his own team.

Yes, he had an amazing season, but that team lived and died by Westbrook.

I agree they live and die by Westbrook, because that fool doesn't pass. When he would have an off night, he would keep jacking it up anyway, forcing it. I think Durant would be better off without such an aggressive scorer for a PG. IMO

If they could only have one, I think they're a better off with Westbrook.

They're just a better team with him.  He's carrying them right now.

The times when Westbrook was out and it was just KD, he wasn't doing anything of that nature.  A lot of times he couldn't even get shots off because they were all over his ass.

What I don't understand is literally everyone knows Scott Brooks is terrible but Thunder management.  All but maybe a hand full of coaches ever would give a testicle to coach those two "kids" in their prime.

Because his point guard was Reggie Jackson, a guy who was just chucking up shots in hopes of getting paid this offseason and "cried tears of joy" upon getting traded to Detroit of all places after rejecting at double digit million offer to be a backup just so he could have his own team.

Westbrook is in a ridiculous zone right now, but let's not act like LeBron and KD just fell off a cliff. Don't get too caught up in the moment.

Wow, assume much?  I'm not getting caught up in any "moment".  I didn't say anything about LeBron.  LeBron is still the best player on the planet, and it isn't all that close.  I also didn't say KD fell off a cliff, I just said I think Westbrook is more important to the Thunder's success than Durant is.  I've been saying that for a damn while... way before Westbrook finally had his opportunity to shine.  Doesn't have anything to do with what's going on now.

Westbrook can carry the Thunder further without Durant than Durant can carry the Thunder without Westbrook.  That's my opinion.

LeBron is just still in regular season mode - Curry, Harden, Westbrook, etc are fighting for positioning and to prove themselves.  Aside from a game here and there, or when he feels like making a point, LeBron largely coasts through regular season in order to save himself for the playoffs.  If he really wanted (like really, really wanted) another MVP, he could easily put his name at or near the top of the list.

I'm totally with you there - when it comes to getting one's shot, it's Westbrook all day.  KD is an incredible shooter, but really needs to come off screens and be set up.

Westbrook slashes to the rim better than any player in the NBA. And yeah that includes LeBron. James just has the better frame for it.

?

Westbrook without KD (from this year) 11-8

Durant without Westbrook ( from last year) 24-11

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
