Daredevil's "Kingpin"

Mr. Scot

How many episodes in are you? He's most certainly not weak or a bully, it was a tough path for him.

I've watched 6 episodes.  Beating up a guy with a car door doesn't make him strong.  His character has no presence on the screen, and he fumbles around.  He doesn't have the absolute dominance and authority that he should.

Did you read the earlier posts? It's the story of how he becomes the Kingpin, just like it's showing how Murdock becomes Daredevil. If you're enjoying the show overall, just keep watching.

yes, I get that, and that's what makes him a common thug.  they stripped away his 'kingpin-ness' and made him into a typical, arrested development cry-baby.

compare it to the STNG episode when Picard was captured and being tortured.  His captor has all the control and authority, until he tells the story about being a boy, struggling to survive.  That killed his image, it humanized him.

They are trying to show Kingpin as a person, which is a fine idea, but it humanizes him and makes him look like everyone else.  It kills his presence.  He's just there, nothing special about him.  There's no presence about him that shows how he gets to his position.  He should have that, even as he's developing into his Kingpin persona.

I finally finished this series, and it was awesome. Great show. Maybe best super hero television show ever.

Hope they get Frank Castle (The Punisher) sneaked in to this show some point. He is a perfect counterpoint to Murdock's beliefs at achieving similar goal of taking down criminals and organized crime

This season was very much about the person Fisk and Murdock want to be vs who they really are

The painting Fisk bought, it is a callback to his childhood when his dad told him to stare at the wall and decide "what kind of man do you want to be". When he wakes up every morning he looked at that picture which looks like that concrete wall

Murdock is trying to figure out the same thing with his confessions and conversations with the priest. Is he the devil or is he righteous? The preacher gave him an out by telling him the devil puts the fear into people to walk the path of righteousness. The devil suit is a symbol of that fear

By the last episode both men realize who they really are. Fisk's story in the police van let's us know that he now knows who he is.

Good stuff

Just checked out the first couple of episodes.  Having never even heard of this character really (never read the comics, never saw the movie, etc), I am pleasantly surprised by the amount of depth shown in the main character.  As with most super hero stories you have to first wrestle your mind away from the absurd premise to be able to enjoy it.

Also...the theme song kicks ass.
