Pierre Thomas oh man how will they overcome this debilitating blow to their offense

Lol at how desperate some of you are to rationalize why the Panthers don't sign good players in free agency like other successful NFL teams.

Dude, Saints are royally hosed, everyone knows it.  They claim that Mickey Loomis is some genius that can avoid major cap problems, but the world doesn't work like that.  Saints will be the cellar of the NFC south within the next 2 season.  Sad part is the Saints fan's really believe they'll be fine on the other side of this.  Newsflash, you just bankrupted your team for a superbowl run that didn't materialize...you are in fact SCREWED.  No pass rush, no running game, poor line play on both sides of the ball, but it's cool they gots teh Jemmeh Graham and Mole Scar, so who needs to play defense...that is an obsolete concept.  Thanks Saints for helping give us an easier path to 3 straight NFC South Championships.

It's not necessarily that, it's that they cut him because they were forced to because they have no money.  They had crappy players that lead them to a poor record last year, and they not only can't afford to replace those crappy players, but they can't even afford to keep them, and that's what I'm enjoying about watching this situation.  Seriously, I've seen some gloriously hilarious comments from saints fans, one guy says this move will now allow them to sign Suh, and another guy said they should Cut Brees because Mccown could do better under center...The straws their fan base is grasping at is hilarious.

NO can get under the cap pretty easily if they restructure a number of contracts.  They may be able to get enough to sign one big free agent like they always seem to do.  Problem is that they'll be in the same position they are now next year if they do it.  If they were smart, they would try to clean up the cap this year, take the hit, and reload next year.  But they won't do that, Brees is near the end of his career so they need to win now.  Either way, they're screwed, they're cap room is zapped and Brees is almost done.

My theory is that they wait until Brees retires, then they will do a complete rebuild. It's only 1-3 years away.

Pretty much this and Broncos are next

Well, at least Manning took a paycut bringing him from $19 to $15 million with the promise that Oline help would be sought out.  Unless Brees takes a cut, he only further screws his team.

Further, with all the commercials Manning does, he should have cut his deal to $5 million

new orleans doesn't have to worry about locking a franchise quarterback up and they're going for broke trying to win a super bowl so being in an insane cap situation doesn't hurt them as bad as the panthers.  they know they're going to implode when brees is done and i don't think it's a crime to point that out.  the broncos are about to go through the same thing.

nobody is trying to rationalize poo captain edgy.  we have a good general manager and it's not up for debate so nobody really needs to get defensive anyway.  everyone watched the saints and their gold studded roster miss the playoffs while the shoestring panthers held together with duct tape won the division and a playoff game.

To everyone saying "it's just Pierre Thomas, quit trying to make it a big deal"... Pierre was actually a pretty damn big part of their offense.  The Saints fuging love their screen game, and Pierre was their #1 guy in that regard.  That son of a bitch damn near always got positive yards with those screen passes.

Now obviously they could find someone to replace him, but Pierre was really good at what they asked him to do.  If they're not able to have an effective screen game, that Saints' offense won't be poo.
