Everybody hates Jay

But the morons over at Profootballtalk and ESPN was going on and on about how great that Cutler deal was and how with Tresman Jay was destined for the HOF.

Not recently.

A lot of people thought that around the time that the Bears traded for him or before.

In more recent years, about the only people really putting much stock in Cutler have been hardcore Bears homers.

Granted, he was better than Rex Grossman, but that's not sayin much.

I was talking about when the deal was done last year. This is after knowing that Cutler has literally QB two winning teams since HS, was badly out played by his back-up just last year, and has gotten every coach he ever had fired.

Even knowing all this Mike Florio (the biggest idiot of them all) was praising the Bears for signing Jay to that contract while daring to criticize other teams that were giving out far more reasonable deals to QBs that have accomplished 5x has much in about 1/10th the time as Cutler.

But for whatever reason people just assumed that Cutler is/was a franchise QB...when that SHOULD have been in doubt especially at the end of last season.

And I specifically remember just last year, people on ESPN (Bayless, Jaws, and Dilfer) putting a lot of stock in Cutler (Stephen A. Smith was one of the few at ESPN that didn't think Cutler was franchise QB material), and Mike Florio, the day that Cutler got that deal wrote a long story about how Chicago was set up nicely for the next 6 years or so.

A lot of people, very recently, was putting stock in Cutler and arguing that contract was great.

Include a bunch of people on the Huddle.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I've never been a Cutler fan.

Said when the trade happened that the Bears gave up too much

Shook my head and said "are you kidding me" when I saw the extension he got.

The Cutler years have been a good time to not be a Bears fan.

I've always thought he sucked and was still amazed they traded what they did for him. I also almost got in a fight at my former job with an idiot bears fan because he said Cam wasn't a championship qb and I said the cutler sucks and no team can ever compete with him because he's emo, inaccurate, and wildly inconsistent. Good times.

I knew something was up when Denver let him go and went with Kyle Orton or something like that.

Is Cutler worth 18 Million per year? I don't think so.

Is Cutler a "franchise quarterback"? I don't think so.

Cutler is a mediocre player you can win with if your defense is good enough.

I find the bashing of Cutler by certain members of this forum amusing, however.

Cutler vs. Newton last season:

Sacks allowed:

Chicago: 41

Carolina: 42

QB hits allowed:

Chicago: 82

Carolina: 67

Cutler: 17th in NFL passer rating, 254 yards per game, 5.0 TD%, 3.2 Int. %

Newton 26th in NFL passer rating, 223 yards per game, 4.0 TD%, 2.7 Int. %

You are not going to see Gettleman make the same long term contract mistake the Bears made.

What makes Cutler's contract so toxic is the $54 Million guaranteed...
