Pernell McPhee is going to the Bears 5 for 40M

Bears are reportedly giving Pernell McPhee 5 years, 40 million.

Fox got his man for their new 3-4

Bears Insider

Pernell McPhee was ranked 2nd by @PFF among 3-4 OLBs last

season, only behind Justin Houston

2014 stats : McPhee played in all 16 games and made 27 tackles, 7.5 sacks, four passes defensed, 11 tackles for loss and a whopping 26 quarterback hits. He was Pro Football Focus' second-highest ranked 3-4 outside linebacker, behind only Justin Houston, with a grade of +26.0.

...

Until signing McPhee, the Bears didn't have a true, 3-4 outside linebacker.

He is young (26)

McPhee played just about everywhere in the front for the

#Ravens .

#Bears will play Pernell McPhee at outside linebacker but he

has versatility to do a lot of different things for DC in Vic

Fangio.

#Bears signing LB Pernell McPhee ramps up 3-4 D, also ramps

down some urgency to use No. 1 pick for rush LB - interesting

options now

I was hoping Pernell McPhee would land in a place where he

got to show off his versatility. Vic Fangio's defense is such a

place.

Pro Football Focus Sam Monson @ PFF_Sam

Pernell McPhee is one of those guys with the versatility to

make a defense really tough to combat. Can rush from all over

the place

Matt Bowen @ MattBowen41

#Bears & OLB Pernell McPhee : Productive pass rusher in his

prime. Can play a variety of roles for Fangio. True versatility.

Good move.

ESPN Louis Riddick @ LRiddickESPN

McPhee signing w/ #Bears is awesome. Is a human Swiss

Army Knife along DL...can do it all. If u must $pend on UFA's,

spend on pass rushers!

I really like McPhee as a fit in Fangio's defense. Fangio will

move him all over the line. McPhee brings brawler mentality,

which CHI needs.

McPhee plus Fangio, best move Bears have made in a long

time.

Philadelphia columnist:

"Is Chip Kelly setting up the Eagles for disaster?

No matter how hard I try, I can’t help thinking about the Dream Team. ... Byron Maxwell was the top corner on the market, Frank Gore is a future Hall of Famer, Kiko Alonso played like a beast at linebacker two years ago for the Bills.

...

I keep going back to 2011. The whole city was giddy four years ago at the additions of Jason Babin, Nnamdi Asomugha, Cullen Jenkins, Ronnie Brown, Steve Smith and Vince Young. A truckload of Pro Bowlers

...

Babin came cheap and was a sack machine. Nnamdi was coming off a first-team All-Pro season with the Raiders. Jenkins had just won a Super Bowl with the Packers. Brown, Smith and Young were all Pro Bowlers.

But we all learned pretty quickly that the Dream Team, as Young coined the group in a memorable press conference at Lehigh, was a disaster.

...

I worry that Kelly is so blindly obsessed with doing whatever he can to acquire Mariota ... What if the end game of all this really is Mariota and he’s just not that good? ... draft analysts are certainly mixed in their evaluations of Mariota. He’s not a can’t-miss.

So here’s what scares me: Kelly does everything he can to get Mariota, but it doesn’t work out. Then he bolts for another college job in a year or two"

"Titans rumored to be taking a run at Jay Cutler .... with over $46.3 million in salary cap space, it would make it easy for the Titans to absorb Cutlers’ hefty contract. On top of it all, Jay remains somewhat of a hero down in Nashville. He went to school there at Vanderbilt and still owns a home in the area.

Now it seems the rest of the media world is catching on to this same reality. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the same man who broke the news that the Bears were shopping Cutler, has heard Tennessee is their best shot."
