Lets be real.

Ok guys lets just get it all out in the open. There are a lot of people on this board who look at these games and say "its just preseason, we will get it together." Then there are a lot of people who look at these games and say, "wow, this is not a playoff team this is a team that would struggle to win 8 games." There is no use arguing about it anymore. Here are some facts that will satisfy both groups:

1) The 1st team offense has yet to score a TD through the air, they have also not made one turnover the entire preseason.

2) The defense is missing several starters including Kemo, Beason, Davis, and Godfrey...the 1st team defense has yet to force a turnover the entire preseason.

3) The Panthers seem to run the ball very well however they can't seem to stop it on defense.

4) John Kasay can still kick it from 50 but Jansen can't hike it 7 yards on dirt.

Both sides are right and both sides are wrong. Yes its preseason and no the scores don't count these games are about getting better and developing young players. However, there is cause for concern, the defense hasn't tackled well but more importantly it seems the injury bug has returned with a vengence. Let's all try to agree to disagree and just make it through the last game and get to the real stuff soon. That is all.

Regardless of how I feel about the defense at this point...I'm still saying 10-6, playoff wildcard. 0-4 in the preseason, 10-6 in the regular season, all bets are off in the postseason.

We've actually got the makings of a top five offense here, and the omen of a bottom 16 defense.

I think/hope the defense will do decently during the regular season in that they will cause game changing turnovers and red zone stops. As it seems, we are going to give up lots of yards though.

The biggest thing in my perspective is the lack of pressure from the defensive line when it comes to pass rushing. We need more/quicker pressure to create turnover oppurtunities.

10-6 wildcard doesn't appear to be out of the question at this point even with the less than stellar results we've seen thus far in preseason.

edit: Oh and as for the offense I think we will have a big year.

Do we get one of these stupid "let's be real posts" every day?

Your not being real..

Your NOT be original by any stretch of the imagination.

Of course there is some cause for concern with injuries and rusty play.

We all know it. But we also all know that that can evaporate instantly once the season starts for real.

These "let's be honest" posts are repetitive and annoying.

I am concerned about the defense because they are not performing the fundamentals properly, for example tackling. I was at the game last night and the tacking was horrible. It is as if they are trying not to get hurt, which could be possible. I am holding out hope that will improve.

The offense sputtered when they had chances but that does not equal a failing season and it's definitely not something any Panther fan should be surprised about.

Moose and Smitty both dropped balls that would have sustained drives. I still have no clue what the penalty was to negate Goodson's first nice run. There is still nothing precise about the passing attack. I was encouraged however to see Jake finding the underneath guy a few times and I loved the screen pass. For some reason our receivers can never make a break and create space like opposing receivers can against our DB's. (??) Even if they could I am not sure we have a surgeon like Flacco that could capitalize anyway. There really isn't much rhyme or reason to the offense in preseason. We are trying different stuff a little dependent upon "available" personnel, playing conservatively, and taking what we can. That will change in a week or two. Then we can talk about who sucks and who needs to get cut. Right now it just does not matter.

Gamble and Teal looked like they were not really into it at all. I really do not think they care about beating the Ravens in a preseason game. Harris seemed a bit dazed as well. All the flying around on the line and with the backers may be confusing our DB's as far as their first step goes. They look to be playing catchup all the time. That should change with time.

The problem with the d is still how to work together as a wide open swarm-to-the-ball defense. They were hit or miss last night but it was different than other nights. Not saying better but different. Now we have guys running but they don't always know where to go. I saw several unnamed lineman spinning and cutting and changing direction full speed last night looking like weeble-wobbles out there. Confused, but learning and giving effort.

Meeks is going to be fine here. We have not even seen what the defense is capable of yet.

Ray Rice will make a LOT of good defensive players miss this year.

Flacco will be a probowler for sure.

Heap made a fantastic catch.

That is all. One big practice left. Hopefully some posters here will either get on their meds this week or stay off the Huddle altogether.....Something tells me not to hold my breath though:(
