Put a Price Tag on CJ Spiller

Recommended Posts

With Shady McCoy going to the Bills It's become clear CJ Spiller is on the open market. He wants to get paid but he's coming off a tough year at a devalued position. He's an offensive weapon but not an every down player. He was drafted in 2010 when high draft picks got overpaid. So let's do a huddle price check?

What is he worth to-

The Panthers:

Himself:

The league:

The league would basically be his highest bidder and ultimately what he signs for.

My price tags:

The Panthers: 3 years 7 million

Himself:    5 years  40 million

The league:  5 years 25 million

I would not have a RB on my roster on a second contract if I were a GM.  When they start their decline at age 26, you are most certainly going to overpay.  RBs would be like college players--every four years, they graduate.

If he still has his speed, and can stay on the field, then he could be an excellent weapon in both the return game and catching passes out of the backfield.  Big if's though.

This.

For everyone that wants Ginn, Jones, Harris to help our special teams, I would say Spiller is a much better fit than any of those.  All of those WRs are #4s here and wouldn't contribute to the offense the way CJ would next to Stewart.  Spiller could get 8-10 rushes a game and step in as a starter if JStew hits the exercise bike, like we've all seen during his career.

Problem is, he probably wants too much and I can see a team with more cap space giving it to him.  He went to Clemson so there would be some local ties here, though he was a superstar in high school in FL.  If the price is right, I'd certainly welcome him here to help our ST.

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
