Walk up to a wall of HDMI cables at your local electronics store or browse your online outlet of choice and you’ll see all manner of brands claiming their cables offer better picture and sound quality than the competition. Indeed, there is perhaps no consumer electronics segment more riddled with marketing voodoo and misinformation than the cable and wire industry. It’s nearly impossible not to be coerced into spending premium dollars in the pursuit of the best possible experience. But is there really a difference between expensive HDMI cables and budget offerings? We asked an expert to find out.

“In terms of picture quality there’s no difference,” explains Jeff Park, Senior Technical Manager for HDMI Licensing, LLC, “It’s digital, so it’s all or nothing.”

So the short answer is no. If you think a more expensive cable is going to deliver a better picture, then you’re mistaken.

“Whether you have a $100 cable or a $5 cable, if they meet the same specification requirements there should be no difference,” says Jeff, “From a technical point of view they are exactly the same.”

I love monoprice cables. In person, firefold here at Concord mills had great priced cables and stuff.

I don't feel bad about not giving monster anything. They over charged for basic cables, gave away what became beats most popula headphones... I just have to laugh at them.

When I bought my projector two years ago, I needed a 35 ft hdmi cable. I went to Fry's electronics store and they had a $400 monster cable they were trying to sell me. I t&t me him I was looking at the $50 mono price one. He argued with me up and down about how monster was so superior and I would experience all these issues etc.

needless to say I went the mono price route and have had no issues.

I always wondered about this.

With digital its just 1's and 0's.

How could one cable get better 1's and 0's over better than another?

Like Beats headphones there is not much of a difference. Some extra sheilding (for a fortune)

the packaging and marketing is what hypes it up.

I love these customer reviews of this $2,200 HDMI cable..hilarious

new purchase was going to be even better than I originally thought because of this exquisite cable. I was also pleased to find out that Geek Squad would install all of this for the low price of $129.00. I even purchased the extended warranty for only $249.00 in case my cable broke. With so much data travelling through the cable at such high speeds this is a must.

    • I think it got murtec.   same happen when Dan signed hunt, lewis, and others. I member the cap space was 100million for 2024 in 2023. It was reduced to 25ish, not including shy and horn help. Icky will need 5th year option and Motown will have dead space as well.  As others have pointed out the number of Panthers is low around 34(if you include 2025 draft picks) *one big shinning light, the dreaded 50 million per year dead cap should be over then.  I think in the end it will be around 35 million if you include icky 5th(I think its around 23 million)
    • we may draft 8 players before the final 2 rounds, we'll need money to pay them
