Trent Cole makes a lot of sense.

Talking about former Eagles, I'd rather go after CB Cary Williams

Trent's too old

Wasn't Cary Williams trash in Philly?

As far as Cole, I'd bring him in. We need all the pass rush we can get. Nice stop gap while Ealy keeps developing.

Trent Cole was born on October 5, 1982, He will turn 33 years old early in this next NFL season. That's definitive.

33 years old. That alone makes it unlikely we sign him.

Not impossible, but very improbable. Not something I would bet my house on.

We were interested in 34 year old julius peppers last season...

More about clashing with Chip Kelly. Was reported on NFL Now Chip Kelly is purging vet players that aren't buying into his system of practices and style of play. That's why Williams, Cole, and McCoy are gone.

Willing to give Williams a shot based on that. See what he can do in a more normal NFL system and routine.

can he play with a hand in the dirt as a 4-3 end?

if so, and if he'll come cheap, he might offer mcdermott and rivera some schematic flexibility. if he can outproduce the rotation we had at hardy's spot last season he'll be worth ~6 a year at the position.

When he was at his best he was a 4-3 end, never put up his best numbers in 3-4

does his level of play at OLB in 2014 translate to his play as the type of DE we would use him to play in 2015?

ignore everything else, this is the crux of my question.

he is literally a probowl DE.  He would be fine with his hand in the dirt.

I am telling y'all that Brandon Graham is the player to get, not old, overpriced Cole. He is probably headed to FA

And there is this:

Graham seems like the perfect in-house replacement, and could probably post double-digit sacks if his and Cole’s snaps were flip-flopped. However, the 2010 first-round pick is scheduled to reach free agency in March, and is described as not especially close in contract negotiations with the team—not to mention Graham might prefer to test free agency, where pass-rushers are commodities.
