I can't believe the browns signed Jake to that huge contract in 2010. This is after we cut Jake from a big contract he didn't live up to.

I can. They're the fuging Browns. This is a franchise that just signed Josh McClown as if hes going to be the answer to their QB incompetence.

  • A "non-exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position for the previous year, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. A non-exclusive franchise player may negotiate with other NFL teams, but if the player signs an offer sheet from another team, the original team has a right to match the terms of that offer, or if it does not match the offer and thus loses the player, is entitled to receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.

We gave up 2 first rounders for the privilege of signing him.

Was Hurney the GM back then?

Was Seifert. He left the Niners after the 1996 season and stayed away from football until JR coaxed him to Charlotte for the 1999 season.

Those three seasons from 1999 thru 2001 set this team back several years.

Gilbert was signed by Capers prior to the 1998 season. One of the things that made this such a bad move is the Redskins had franchised him in '97 and he chose to sit out the year instead of sign the tender. Then in '98 they franchised him again and we bit.
