So be honest and completely objective.. Is there really a LT worth a true 1st round pick?!

For the 10th time.

Don't think there is a Tackle in the draft that can start on the left side his first year barring injury to a starter.

As far as the Giants when Gman was there, they took like one tackle in the first 3 rounds in all the years together if I am not mistaken.

If he sticks to those habits, I doubt we will go OT in the first, especially in a weak draft.

Look for a WR or DE to be our guy

I think there is better value for OT in rounds 2-5. Not saying G won't take an OT in the first but i think there will be guys available who could fit the team better. Peat and Flowers seem to be popular picks available at 25 but my gut says someone more intriguing will be available at another position of perceived need albeit less critical in some minds than OL.

It's too early in the process to tell.

lol, we're past bowl season, the Senior Bowl, the Combine, and are getting ready for Pro Days... How is that 'too early in the process'?

I'd say that yes, there is definitely LT worth taking in the 1st round this year. (I have no idea what a 'true' 1st round pick is, I guess it's the opposite of a false 1st round pick?) Andrus Peat is a monster, who played in a run-first Cardinal system that would translate incredibly easily to the NFL. Sure, he's not the nastiest run blocker, but he doesn't have to be. He's going to be brought in purely for pass protection.

All first rounders are successful??

If there is one position that we should focus our free agent money on, it's the LT position. I would much rather spend the money on a proven NFL starting LT than a hit or miss college kid at one of the toughest spots to play in the game.

This tackle group is pretty darn deep like the wide receiver group from last year. There were 6 1st round wide receivers from last year's draft which enabled KB to fall to us at 28. There will be a tackle available at 25 because there are 7 1st round tackle prospects.

according to ex-scout Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com, this draft is "very deep" at OT, but he thinks Humphries is the only one that he is sure "has a chance to be a starting left tackle, Day 1":

"Florida's D.J. Humphries..is beginning to gain buzz as the best [OT] prospect [in the draft]... "He has a chance to be a starting left tackle, Day 1, at the next level," NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah said on NFL Network's "Path to the Draft." "I don't know if I can say that about any other offensive lineman in this class. It's very deep, but (Humphries) has the best feet of the bunch...[he] should go off the board in the top 15 picks."

You answered your own question. We have to wait until Pro Days.

Correction: Responsible fans (with little to no film) should wait for the evaluations of Pro Days and team workouts before attempting to draw anything near a conclusion, especially where linemen are concerned.

I agree.

What we also need to do is sit back and watch who they invite in. DG and his team have done a wonderful job at evaluating talent and bringing them in. Outside of injuries most of our draft picks have been solid from DG. No true busts, yet.

This year DG will not allow OT go unaddressed. I think Oher will be a Panther and a 2-5 Round OT will be brought in to be a backup and fine tune his craft.

Reading this thread reminds me how fortunate we were to have drafted a guy like Jordan Gross. He fact he came in and played right away, albeit at RT, says it all. There aren't 5 guys in the league now that are better than he was in his prime.

I remember researching Gross before we made that pick. I liked the fact that he was a martial artist. Told me a lot about balance and strength and confidence. Are any of the draftees this year martial artists?

The problem is that there are no top tier free agent LTs that are free agents. There usually aren't. Teams generally lock those guys up and they don't leave the team that needs them. That's not always true but it certainly is this year. There are no sure things available.

I think DJ Humphries, Andrus Peat, and TJ Clemmings are all well worth a first round pick and are more sure fire than any of the other tackles. I am not as huge of a fan of Ereck Flowers, but I would not see it as a waste if we picked him up. This class is for sure dicey.
