So be honest and completely objective.. Is there really a LT worth a true 1st round pick?!

This is a very interesting draft when you talk about the talent there.  I think there are some good players, but then again, I'm not an expert.

Daniel Jeremiah said on NFL.com that the WRs might end up being the safest picks in this draft after how good last year's were.  That doesn't make a lot of sense to me!  Just because last year's WRs ended up performing very well, I'm not sure how relevant that is to this year's group of players.

I think a lot of folks get caught up in the numbers game when look at OTs.  Arm length, Ht/Wt, 10 yard split, ect.  Josh Norris looked at successful OL's and came away with their agility drills being the most indicative of future success, which is where Jake Fisher from Oregon is starting to gain a following here.  Is either approach right?  Who knows!  I just read stuff and try to glean some kind of understanding from it.

Ultimately Gettleman and his staff are going to find the best players and draft them.  I think there are some really interesting OTs like TJ Clemmings, Peate, Collins, and Flowers.  Would I like to see them drafted at 25?  I wouldn't be upset.  OT is a hard plug and play position.  Not all rookies are ready, and most require seasoning.

La'el Collins is a beast. He won't be there at 25 though. A lot of people think he'd be better suited sliding inside at first, or even permanently, but I think he would be fine outside. He'd be worthy of the pick, just not sure that he'll slide. If he's there at 13 and all the pass rush prospects are gone, I expect him to be the Saints pick.

In case you needed a heads-up, this is just another one of those terrible posts decent and well-meaning people make so frequently on this board where they share their frustration with there not being an elite, flawless, blue chip, top-5, once in a generation prospect at the very back end of the first round.

I hate these posts.

Let me make you a promise right now, OP:

On of the guys you've already declared as a "2nd round bust" will, without fail, be a better player than one of those top-tier players you're so keen on.

The worst part of all, is that these posts don't just show up when were picking near the end. We've seen the same brand of posting when we were picking 14th, 9th, and even **1st overall**.

"I just don't see a player whose going to completely be the GOAT uuuugh our luck I hate life."

some people tend to underrate OL because they are so boring. People seem to understand how important DL is.....OL is basically the same thing, just the other side of the coin

Cover32:

"Glamorous. That’s not the word that comes to mind when thinking about players along the offensive line. ... While “skill-position” players get all of the headlines, and offensive tackles get the biggest contracts, .. linemen toil in relative anonymity. But..they are key cogs in any offense. In the running game, they establish control at the point of the attack. If they get blown off the ball, a back isn’t going anywhere. And in the passing game, they set up the pocket. The surest way to rattle any quarterback is to pressure him

...

They’re vital pieces to any offense. They just aren’t names with which most fans are familiar."

For the 10th time.

Don't think there is a Tackle in the draft that can start on the left side his first year barring injury to a starter.

As far as the Giants when Gman was there, they took like one tackle in the first 3 rounds in all the years together if I am not mistaken.

If he sticks to those habits, I doubt we will go OT in the first, especially in a weak draft.

Look for a WR or DE to be our guy

so if they end up as hall of fame players you think a first round pick will have been ok?

good to know.

if you arent gonna completely revolutionize the way the game is played then gosh darnet you have no business being drafted.

The standard deviation of success is too high for my taste on 1st round offensive tackles. Add in additional uncertainty in this year's draft class= who knows what to expect from the prospects?

I'd much rather pull the trigger on a more solid player at another position.

Not sure what your formula is but the facts are 19 out of 32 teams start a first rounder at LT, including both Super Bowl combatants. The Pats ONLY first round offensive starter was their LT.

And All-Pro's CAN be had in the 20s, see Duane Brown and Joe Staley.
