The OTs you would take at 25 if available

Some Jake Fisher and DJ Humphries discussion around here got me thinking.  Of course it all depends on how DG values each specific player, but I was wondering out of the potential left tackles: Who would you be willing to take at 25?

For me..

Given:

Brandon Scherff

La'el Collins

Andrus Peat

Ereck Flowers

Fringe/Undecided:

Cameron Erving

The impression I get is he's actually totally capable at LT in the NFL but his star potential at center makes him overlooked..hell, the idea of bringing him in to be LT/Back-up Center for a bit and eventually take over for Kalil is intriguing

TJ Clemmings

He's raw and some say more ideal for RT but he could be a good option with a ton of potential

DJ Humphries

One of the more hyped guys once the combine started to roll around.  From Mallard Creek, has mentioned recently he would love to play here.  I'm sure we'll give him a look, interesting to wonder if DG could view him BPA.

Jake Fisher

Another hyped guy as of late that was originally being projected around round 3 towards the beginning of the year.  There are scouts, analysts, and draft sites mentioning he could be taken in the first.  Chiefs and Giants fans are even talking about wanting to have him as their pick.

Chaz Green OT UF 6'5 314 has experience at every position on the line and was team captain. would be great pickup in later rounds or as an UDFA

way under the radar and projects as an OT

At 25 I'd be happy with:

Peat

Flowers

Scherff

Collins

Maybe even Fisher or Humphries

I pretty much agree.  I'm interested by Fisher and Humphries a lot but don't want to buy into the hype too fast.  Won't lie, they look and seem the part.

Peat's combine scared me. I can't pinpoint it and probably talking out of my ass, but I just don't know if his body will treat him well over the years.

He just seems kinda awkward haha.  I don't know what it is but something puts me off about Peat.

If a player isn't the BPA of everyone at that point then you don't pull the trigger on a LT unless there is a big drop off between that pick and someone you could get later. So will the 6th best tackle for example be worth enough to justify the pick when we could get the 12th best tackle in the 3rd for example. Versus getting the 4 th best receiver or the 2 nd best corner. Offensive tackle gets picked over pretty quickly as many teams need a left tackle but not that many guys come out who aren't going to need a few years to,learn the position. And are we willing to invest our first rounder on a guy who might need years to develop versus a skill position where he could contribute from day 1. It is one thing to pick top 10 like we did with Gross versus 25 when you are picking a good player but maybe not a great one.

Exactly.  Would you want to pass on a guy like Jaelen Strong to draft a guy like Cameron Erving at #25?  I wouldn't.  Take the Dez Bryant clone over reaching on an OL prospect just because you badly need one.

I love the idea of going skill position again in the first.  Let's say Collins, Scherff, Flowers, and Peat are gone...add in Jaelen Strong outside of the obvious gone WRs, there's a possibility Humphries and Fisher are near the top of our list ahead of some of the 4-3 DEs that could be available.  I think there's a good chance the best value could be at CB, OLB, or DT.  There's some top heavy talent in those classes.

Outside of WR and OT, Kevin Johnson, Paul Dawson, Eddie Goldman, Malcolm Brown, Michael Bennett, & Odi could all be possibilities.

Seems like a hard class to project this year IMO.  It's always hard picking late, but the plus is that means we're winning games :)
