Panthers Final Decision On Hardy : No Thanks

Voth told everyone last off season when the tag was given that he wouldn't be here past the tag, that Carolina had no interest in signing him long term.

did the org just pin him as a one year rental to take a shot at a title?

Yeap. The court case just put an exclamation point on it for them.

And that was the most nonsensical move that Gettleman has made during his management. Just utterly ill-advised without any meaningful justification. That money should have gone to Jared Veldheer and other upgrades or less inexpensive inexpensive Band-Aids.

Sigh

lol I agree. On a side note, that's kinda funny to me because I traded Hardy for Veldheer in Madden before my season began xD

Easy sign him back, have alot of loop holes in new contract that depend on behaivor. If he screws up again then trade him. That way we at least get draft picks.

Alot of players in nfl have had second chances.

To let him go and get nothing in return is effing stupid. He is way to valuable. Front office has no balls when it comes to bad press.

yeah couple problems there chief

-greg's agent is drew rosenhaus whose job is to keep him from signing a deal like that.  there are going to be teams waving $20+ million guaranteed in his face with no strings attached and they'll both laugh at our deal as they ink one of those.  "personal behavior" clauses also draw the ire of the NFLPA and if we attempt to exercise it it's going to be a drawn out battle.

-as for trading him if he gets in trouble again, no team in the league would give us a damn thing for a guy with a track record of trouble who's in the poo again with a possible suspension looming.  they'd just wait for us to cut him if they wanted to take a chance.  shouldn't teams be lining up to trade for justin blackmon if this concept works?

-"Front office has no balls when it comes to bad press."

bullshit-greg is on chance three or four since this entire thing started.  after the conviction the panthers let him play rather than disciplining him-there were multiple quotes from the panthers that we were going to let the legal process play out.  then ray rice happened and the NFL had a major PR problem on their hands.  then roger goodell came down on the team with an ultimatum (remember the press conference where gettleman reiterated several times that suspension was never on the table from the panthers) and greg hardy was basically put on paid vacation.  this designation allowed him to be in the building and work with the team which he didn't do per multiple reports.  the FO stuck their neck out for him as best they could and he more or less told them to fug off.

-"To let him go and get nothing in return is effing stupid."  i keep seeing this like it's the most original thought in the world and the panthers are just too dumb to see it.  we couldn't get a shoelace in return for greg hardy right now.  if we tagged him nobody in the entire league would table a thing for him because there's no threat whatsoever that the panthers would extend him which is what drives tag and trades in the first place.  he'd have a massive cap hit and it's extremely likely we'd be carrying it all year so wave goodbye to all those FAs we need to sign.

the answer to this isn't as simple as you think it is.  the panthers were in the wrong place at the wrong time, period.

hardy had turned down big money before so an extension wasn't going to happen easily.

what's the alternative, let him walk for nothing?  isn't that what everyone has a shitty diaper over right now?

Just look at your screen name. Arguing with you will get no where. So let's say we agree to disagree.

my screen name satirizes low content posts made by people last offseason who didn't understand the legal situation hardy was in and thought they were being clever. maybe i should stick to that theme and change it to "Sign Greg Hardy and Trade Him If He Gets in Trouble Again"
