I wonder why the media is not as obsessed about who the best player in the NBA is as it is in fall. hmm!

Oh, Eureka! They can't claim Ricky Rubio is the best.

for the same reason they care more about the best basketball player than they do the best hockey player. One is vastly more popular than the other. Seems pretty simple

Maybe, or there is no one to overly hype. Trust me, if Rubio had the same talent level as James Harden they wouldn't stop hyping him until they convince us all he's the greatest.

I think with the NFL they're just trolling a certain segment of the population. They are saying, although the NFL look like this but look who the two "The Best" players are. They're obsessed with using the phrase "The Best". Just marketting.

Keuchly "The Best"

Alonso "The Best"

Watt "The Best"

Brady "The Best"

Luck "The Best"

Nelson "The Best"

They just need a guy to be competitive to add "The Best" at the end of his name. In reality, if you follow the NFL those above listed players play quite a small role in their team's success. But to the larger segment of the population it feeds their ego if the media say those players are "The Best".

What the actual fug are you talking about?

Earlier in the thread you were upset about the attention Luck gets as opposed to Bridgewater (6-6 career record) and Winston (never taken an NFL snap) and you are complaining about people calling JJ Watt the best defensive player in the NFL?

Also, they do hype NBA players.  Lebron gets at least as much attention as Brady and more than the rest of those guys combined.  Alonso?  Please.

I never argue that a particular player should get more attention. I bring attention to the ones' overhyped.

Example, here you have the media selling that Watt is the best defensive player but Suh just got payed 14 more millions than him. That means the NFL don't feel like he's the best else he would have set the threshold for contracts, like Jordan did. Did I mention Houston was the sack leader last year and if you follow the media you'd never know that guy exist. If he doesn't exist then Watt must be the best right, right?

The NBA is not ignoring Durant in order to hype Lebron. The NBA is not targeting a specific segment of the population so they don't need to that. All talents get their recognition equally.

you still brought up Bridgewater and Winston in comparison to Luck, that is stupid. Wilson, Cam, Kaepernick, Dalton, Griffin... those are his peers. The others are not at this time.

Also, comparing Suh's free agent contract to a contract signed by Watt when he had two years left on his existing deal is another apples and oranges thing. By your logic MLB thinks Max Scherzer is a better pitcher than Felix Hernandez while any halfway competent biped with opposable thumbs would laugh at that comparison.

Nobody in the NBA gets equal recognition to LeBron, except maybe a healthy Kobe.

For years Calvin Johnson stood by himself as the highest paid WR and he was the best WR. No other franchise even dare attempt to give another WR a contract similar to him. He set the standard. The league doesn't think Watt set any standard business-wise. Darrelle Revis have been on an island for years as being the top paid CB. Houston could sign a bigger contract than Watt because he has the stats and leverage to do so.

Not saying the highest paid players are the best. But some players are transcendent enough that their contract stand by itself. Until of course they get old and start declining. Watt is not transcent, he's not the Calvin Johnson of receiver or the Revis of cornerbacking. He's a top player for his team.

if Watt were a FA like Suh and had multiple teams after him he would make more money. FA have more leverage.

Also, I thought Sherman and then Peterson both had turns as the highest paid, is that incorrect?

I don't care who the FA WR is, he would not get paid more than Calvin. This is the amount of separation that Calvin have above other receivers. Watt is indistinquishable among good DEs. And I think it was a slap to the face to have the supposed best DE on your roster and draft Clowney #1 overall.

I did not say anything about WR.  You brought up Revis and CB, I responded by saying both Sherman and Peterson took turns as the highest paid.  You then ignored that and moved on to WR.  Why is that?

It is not a slap in the face at all.  DE is different than QB, you need two of them in your starting lineup.  Watt is one, Clowney is meant to be the other, not a replacement.  If Clowney reaches his potential that tandem will have opposing QBs hearing footsteps in May.

Revis Island have been around for years and he's been the highest paid CB. Peterson and Sherman are recent, Revis' absence during his injury made people forget a little about him. Now they remember. Watt is just a figment of the media's imagination. They think giving him the ball on the 1 yard line for him to score is supposed to be something extraordinary so they can market him. So they can say 'he score the most TDs among DEs'. So retarded. Suh doesn't wanna that crap. So cheap.

See here I thought JJ Watt had averaged seventeen or so sacks the past three seasons, but I guess he is just some dude that catches one yard touchdowns. My bad, silly me. I wonder who I was thinking of

In the worse division, against the worse teams, and he plays with no discipline because he has nothing to lose or to win. Who cares what stats a player compile playing for the Texans, Titans, or Jaguar.

I suppose you do not care about the Panthers winning the division then either
