i need a riding mower

Moving into a bigger house with a much bigger yard in a few weeks. I have a small 22" cut push mower that would take me a couple hours to mow the new yard with.

 

So I'm looking for a 42-46" cut riding mower, mainly as a time saver. I just can't allot 2 hours just to mow, not to mention trimming etc.

 

Would love to not spend over a thousand bucks but am scared to buy used.  Any suggestions?

My personal opinion is to stay away from these.

Try to get a John Deere if you can for a $1000

How big is your new yard and how much stuff is there to go around? Also, measure your gate if fenced. Just because it's a 42 inch deck doesn't mean that's how wide your mower is.

If you're handy I'm sure a used one wouldn't be a problem if the engine is strong. Or just wait for a careless lawn service.

Or just move to the desert and have no grass. We have scorpion fights in the summer every third Saturday

Why nervous about buying used?

 

 

That's all I do.  Buy one for a couple hundred, take it to the local small motor shop (Honest Engine here in ILM) and let them rebuild the carb and check it out for $100.

 

Bam, saved 5-600, and it will last for years if you maintain it.
