League wide veteran purge

Mr. Scot

Falcons also cutting DE Jonathan Massaquoi.

Word also that both Darnell Dockett and Barry Cofield were cut with a 'failed physical' designation.

Now Mass is interesting. . We can develop Dlinemen and the F alcons suck at it.. We can take their young DE and make him better.n

After the new CBA, teams were able to spend more money on their vets and less on rookies.  So, you have a lot of older players who are getting paid more than they would have otherwise, and who are no longer worth that kind of money.  This year is just the first in a "this is how it's gonna be" pattern going forward.

The rookies are more game ready today, pushing veterans out the way. The new rookie contracts also gives organizations flexibility to save money by cutting veterans with bigger contracts.

After listening to a couple of football fanatics, and doing a little thinking on my own....I'm not so sure that college is producing more NFL ready talent, I think that the NFL is making the game a little easier for young players to succeed.

Not as much on D, but O's seem to be a little easier to transition to.

Your exactly right, with the new set of rules against the defense, the game is easier for younger offense players.

Not only that, but schemes.

It would be almost impossible for a raw WR coming out of college to jump into a true WCO from the 80's and 90's and be successful.  The offenses were just too complex.

Now, you have rookie WR's putting up crazy numbers right out of the gate, and QB's starting much sooner than in the past.

I don't think Kalil will be cut.

But that said, hands up from everybody who foresaw the Steve Smith release...

A few folks did, but Smitty being cut was really the very first time the 'Gettleman effect' was in play. I think everyone has a much clearer understanding this offseason than last.
