Judge overturns Peterson suspension

But two games wasn't the rule or the general outcome as it was handled on a case by case basis. PED and Drug offenses were handled by the CBA while personal conduct issues where not. That lead to each one being handled on a case per case basis. There was no prior rule so to me any new rule can applied IMO. I'm not trying to defend the leagues handling but I don't think it's out of line much either. To me the problem is they have to set something and stick with it and not have the Guantanamo Prison thing going on.

In that same article is says the longest suspension it could find for domestic case was 3 games. It usually was a max 2 games.

We will know more when details of the ruling come out

Look at it kind of like "buy one, get one half off". The general rule is that half off is always applied to the cheaper of the two products. The lesser punishment will apply in this case because we had lesser standards. Hardy will probably get little to nothing.

Correct, but there was no rule to now say has been changed.

Who knows what will happen...

Either way you can't retroactively enforce a new rule like that.

That would be similar to you doing something that was legal, then lawmakers create new law and try to punish you for what you did before it was illegal.

Or you got arrested and charged with a misdemeanor, then after the fact they make it a felony and try to charge you with the felony

I don't see how he can be punished for something that in the eyes of the law be didn't do when Peterson took a guilty charge if I'm not mistaken and was suspended 0 games

Peterson was suspended indefinitely, not eligible for possible reinstatement until April 15th I believe (might be another day in April). And I believe the last few games of last year were unpaid for him.

Here's the thing you have to keep in mind here...

Bill Cosby once joked that when it came to arbitration between two kids, parents aren't interested in justice.  They want quiet.

That applies to the NFL right now too.

They're a lot less interested in what's fair and just punishment for guys like Rice, Hardy and Peterson than they are what will most keep their image problems out of the headlines.

Another two game suspension will bring to people's memories the previous two game suspension, and the uproar surrounding it.

Hence, I won't be surprised if we see them fight for their right to suspend Hardy longer (maybe four games).

They may ultimately lose, but to paraphrase the old saying, there's nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal, except maybe a lawyer who's trying to cover his ass.

Hardy will become immediately eligible soon with no punishment, and no one will bat an eye.
