Bring back Trgovac!!!

I've never been a pollyanna, and I've never been a hater. I have always supported the team and defended the coaching staff. But I was at the game tonight, and finally seeing it in person really brought it home. This edition of the Panthers just isn't interested in playing defense like they have in years past. It's more or less the same package, but the coverage is GONE.

The Ravens didn't carve us up on the ground, taking advantage of Kemo and Beason being out. They used their 2008 28th ranked passing attack to pick us apart by going after our starters--namely Gamble and Harris. And they did it in the face of decent pressure. Our entire secondary looked tentative and out of place. If this effort represented game planning then we're in deep, deep trouble.

Last year we had the same personnel and did a MUCH better job on defense. We got killed on the ground late in the year, but we were always much better than what we showed tonight in coverage. You can blame the players, but the only thing that's changed is defensive coordinators. And honestly, based on what I've seen so far Trgovac is tons better than Meeks. If you hated Trgo, you're going to utterly despise Meeks. Our defense just doesn't play as well as it has.

Maybe this is just a big sand-bagging effort. But boy, does it have me worried.

What he said. Ya know what, I'm over it...I know you're right, you know you're right...no use in wasting time and energy arguing with 95% of the board why the preseason is meaningless.

I agree...but effort and heart are not, it is not like we can just turn on a switch and all of a sudden we will be able to put pressure on the QB, or convert a 3rd down. Our starters played until the end of the 3rd qtr and they were abused on both sides of the ball.

I just dont see this team making any noise in the regular season.

No heart...No Effort, Bad Scheme.

If the Defense is like this during the regular season, it'll show that Fox is the guy controlling the defense. The same sh*t you're seeing now is the same sh*t you saw towards the end of last year. Nothing has changed so far, but there's only 1 constant. Fox.

I dont think it was that Pep didn't want to play for the Panthers, just didn't want to play for Fox anymore

*runs* :gnorsi:

And I think it's not really a big deal, aside from his salary figure, because Peppers is nothing more than an above average NFL defensive end.

The problem is that there's really no other above average talent to speak of on defense besides our linebackers. But, when there's no help in front or behind, bad things will happen.

This defense just doesn't have the personnel to be a squad that we can lean on, Kemo or not.

I didn't the Meeks hiring at all. There wasn't much he showed at Indy that made me excited about him and despite all the talk about gang-tackling and swarming to the ball, we haven't see any of it. I suppose all of this could be a big mirage; with all the injuries and such, they don't want our guys to make any effort to make a play out there for something that doesn't count. Even if that's the case, I'm not liking it.

If we see Meeks running the defense like a shitdick, much like Trgovac did I'm going to start really thinking we need a system refresh at the top of the coaching staff.

Fox doesn't control the defense or offense, but he tells the coordinators what he wants to see. On defense, we have always had a base set where we tried to generate pressure from the line while playing zone coverage. Under Trgovac we mixed up a lot of misdirection with the base set, moving people in and out of coverage and blitzing from all over the place. Meeks promises to be more straightforward, letting linemen be linemen and swarming to the ball rather than blitzing.

Honestly, that's all BS. I don't see any swarming, nor do I see stripping like they claim to be working on. I also see defensive backs being caught way the hell out of position and playing tentatively. Based on past performances, all I can conclude is the coaching sucks this year. I mean, sucks really bad.

You ever hear the saying, "Be careful what you wish for"? The haters already found out what life without Jake was like. Now we get to see how things are without Trgovac, and it isn't pretty.

And if this does continue into the regular season, you can't blame Meeks. So far it's looking like Meeks is just the puppet and Fox is the master pulling the strings.
