Actually, that is not true. Lots of "experts" were placing the Hornets in top 4 status in the East after the Lance signing. We were most definitely expected to be a top team.

And everyone that predicted that was incredibly wrong. Our roster is garbage and we've dealt with a ton of injuries. The best coach in the league wouldn't have us in the top 5.

Please show me how creativity is the problem with this particular set of players?

I don't care how creative a genius can be.  You give the genius a turd to play with and hes just gonna end up smelling like poo.

But make sure the turds best attributes are removed or injured first.  Then let the genius get really creative with it.

Sports Illustrated preseason pick: 3rd in the East (LOL, I wish)

Sporting News preseason pick: 4th in the East

ESPN preseason pick: 6th in the East

Yahoo preseason pick: 6th in the East

Grantland preseason pick: 6th in the East

FOX preseason pick: 7th in the East

NBC preseason pick: 7th in the East

Oh I don't expect anything right now with the injuries and Lance, don't get me wrong.  That's why I want to cut some slack because who seen that coming.  You'd assume Lance would at least be on par with last season and Al would at least play the same defense from the previous season.

I think we obviously keep him unless someone amazing comes around to replace him but that won't happen.

Look at what this guy has been given, realistically.

He lost Kemba, Lance Stephenson has been a massive headcase failure, He got Marvin Williams on a bloated 2 year contract, Big Al has been hurt, and he has spent the majority of the season with little to no consistent outside shooting threats on the wing (Gary Neal and Brian Roberts inconsistent, PJ just isn't there yet, Jeff Taylor inconsistent and was suspended nearly half the year). He finally has a dead eye shooter in Mo Williams but even then he's limited in his ability to play at the 2 guard position for more than 10 minutes.

To say he should be fired after the results from last season with little to nothing after the tumultuous season this team has been through is ridiculous

Not sure what to make of the fact that 4 people actually chose the option of "he is a great coach".

I'm willing to give him some more time, but I'm not going to lie to myself. Maybe some people are just content with mediocrity.

His team can barely compete in a historically weak eastern conference.

Person:  Sir would you please make a 5 star meal for the customer.

Chef: Why sure, what are my ingredients?

Person:  You are going to have :

  • 3 green bananas
  • 2 small potatoes
  • 3 rotten pieces of garlic
  • goat liver
  • 2 cups of raw apple sauce
  • 2 pieces of moldy sour dough bread
  • 6 oz of fermented fish

Chef: ooookay I can use some of this, but these ingredients don't really fit my style of cooking.

Chef works his ass off with what he has, and produces a decent meal, edible, somewhat satisfying.

Customer: WTF is this crap?!?!?  I need a new Chef!!!!

Clearly how things have played out is not entirely his fault.

However, he has been a part of the problem. I can only hope that improves.

Even when we made the playoffs last year his team was promptly humiliated. I'm not going to blame it all on the players either.

Then blame some of it on the front office. The roster doesn't fit together very well at all. Cliff has been good, it's his second year and he'll only improve. There's no reason to fire your coach so you can downgrade, because no better candidate is going to come here, I don't even think there's a better known candidate on the market.

I don't know what your definition of "good" is, but I disagree somewhat.

Who said we should fire him and hire a downgrade? Yeah I admit I've been frustrated with Clifford, partly due to that absolutely terrible stretch of games, and some of that was also from having to watch a terrible stretch of games from Ron Rivera this past season.

I'm not absolving the front office of blame.

But this team has talent. It's up to Clifford to figure out his own lineup and what works best, if he can't do that then we have a problem.

Here's my definition of good. Name more than 10 active coaches that could've done a better job with this roster.
