D Will says Panthers didn't reach out to him when his mother died

Like many in here have already opined, I think the Panthers did take action, it just wasn't enough for DWill's liking and now that he's on the way out the door he's going to air his grievances.

I feel bad for him. With the grind of football season, I don't think he's had an opportunity to grieve, and unfortunately he's making an emotional decision by doing this that in the long run he will probably regret.

I would think there was sympathy, kind words, and flowers sent to the funeral from the club. Don't know what else he was expecting. How about thanking the organization for nine years of a great paycheck and giving him everything he has. Thanks for a nice run Dwill.....but you should leave on a positive note.

More to this then what appears on the surface. Two sides to every story and there is a reason why D.G and R.R didn't go. Who knows what has been going on between the club and Williams and what was going on in the locker room. Regardless, don't burn bridges

no, we're calling petty and sad that he's airing out on national media after being released. he has a problem with the FO, and should have dealt with the FO. don't air your dirty laundry on the way out. that's childish and petty.

still one of my favorite panthers of all time, and I will wear his jersey proudly.

Since when is WBTV national media?

He has no reason to lie about something like this, therefore I have no choice but to believe him.

I don't think anyone believes he is lying.  The question is what is the expected behavior from an organization.  That part is not clear to me.  I do know the Panthers supported DWill for years with his push for breast cancer awareness.  The coaches, GM, and players sent their condolences when his mother died.  It almost seems he is just upset the owner didn't come to the funeral.

Well, he said Gettleman did reach out to him and Rivera spoke to him as well.

Sounds more pausible.

Shocked that big cat didn't though. Very out of character.

Agree 100% with Jeremy...very shocking from JR.

I can understand why DWill feels slighted....and I am disappointed in JR and the org (it takes very little to reach out to someone hurting and let them know you care).

I am disappointed that JR did not reach out to him directly and I am disappointed that the FO did not attend her funeral.  I always reach out to co-workers whom I have known well when something bad happens....it is just common courtesy.  And, I have attended many funerals for family members of co-workers who have passed away as a statement to them that we do care.

However, DWill dealing with this the way he is doing IS definitely petty.

At the end of the day, they are your employer (and it is a business)....they are NOT your family.

I would think the support the panthers organization gave dwill and his mom prior to her death would be more meaningful than attending a funeral.  IMO, I think they went way beyond what was expected of them.  as far as JR not personally reaching out to dwill, we dont know the whole story there.  He is the owner of an NFL team and Deangelo likes to run his mouth on social media,  I dont blame him for keeping his distance.
