Shaq Thompson In The First?

At first I was really high on this kid.

Then I got to thinking about how horrid our offense would be again.

The only way I want him is if he's by far and away the BPA on our board.  If that's the case, then he'll probably be an awesome player and I'll get over it.  I was a little salty when we picked Luke #9 overall with Stephon Gilmore (CB), Dontari Poe (DT), and Michael Brockers (DT) still on the board.  That one worked out alright for us.

That'd be interesting and I'd definitely not be dissapointed.

But if we're saying then Thompson at OLB is a possibility, then I wouldn't look past Paul Dawson as well.  That kid is damn good.

Dawson has been my favorite to add the LB's.  Watching him play reminds me of LaVonte David.  Do want.

Thomas ran 4.4 something at his pro day.

Yeah I rememer hearing him in an interview saying running the 40 at the combine was the worst decision of his football career because he didn't plan to and didn't train for it and some team scouts or other guys kind of pressured him

into running it. TD's way faster than his combine speed indicates.

The two guys I want most at 25 are Shaq or Landon Collins. Our D will be elite again with either of them. Both can play OLB or SS and both are complete beasts. Would be happy with a guy like La'el Collins or even DGB or another top WR, but I am dying for Landon or Shaq, mainly Landon.

So one player drafted at 25 is the difference between a horrid and not horrid offense?

If that player is a plug and play LT, yeah it is.  Horrid is too strong of a word to use, but a starting caliber LT would make a world of difference to our offense.  A good running mate opposite KB would as well, but a LT that didn't require help on every passing down would be the biggest difference maker on our roster right now.

Is there any chance Strong could fall to us in the 2nd? He would be a huge upgrade and I hope we can get Hardy in a later round. Would make it easier for us to pick defensive in the 1st. Need a OT somewhere though, hopefully atleast 2.

There are always draft day surprises, but I'd be shocked.  I think Cooper, White, Parker, and Strong are all first round locks.  They're just too good on the field and have the measurables to back up their production to not go in the first.

If there were a plug and play type LT at 25, I have little doubt we would take him as fast we took Star and KB.

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
