Jaelen Strong

I seriously don't understand the 1st round hype over Jaelen Strong. He is a Jordan Matthews clone. Big, rocked up, plays slower than his timed speed, plays better in the slot than outside, makes contested catches but mostly because he doesn't get much separation. I just don't get it. He has the tools to be a solid receiver for sure but there WILL be guys available with way more upside and potential.

I like the kid but say we have DJ Humphries, Erik Flowers and Shaq Thompson and Strong available who do we choose? BPA is what we will go by obviously but I wonder who Gettleman likes the most out of those guys? We could always ignore WR in the first because there are plenty in this draft.

Decisions,decisions.

Agee. He looks like a heck of a possession receiver that can make catches in traffic. But this team could use a guy with a little more shake - YAC type. Constantly asking your QB to throw jump balls or into tight windows is asking for trouble - turnovers like against Seattle in the playoffs.

kid still has more than adequate speed.  Also those clips were from 2013, his very first year of playing D1 football.

He catches anything thrown his way and has been said at the combine etc to have the best hands in the whole draft (had zero drops at his pro day).  As far as the "stiffness".  KB was Much more "stiff" coming out and a decent bit slower.  With Ricky P and them hiring a second guy to help coach the WRs.  Having those 2 coaches can help with the fluid routes and route tree.  Strong has solid speed and "elite" Hands which are hard to teach.   Would still be ecstatic to have him in the first opposite of KB.  With Perriman's crazy pro day #'s he's going to shoot up the boards pushing Strong our way.

Here's 12 minutes of game footage of a corner step for step with Strong.

Like I said in another thread, unless throwing to his back shoulder I just don't see him being able to win on the outside at the NFL level

Here's his second last college game against Zona. He had 4 catches...

1- trademark back shoulder

2- corner was playing 8 yards off (top of screen), and if Strong has a chance to build up speed he'll beat you deep much like KB. Corner doesn't touch him combined with a little confusion between corner and safety and Strong burns them.

3- Nice one handed TD grab. He was the first option the play before and failed to get open.

4- Corner playing off again so Jaelen sits down and takes his 5 yards.

He has a crucial drop on 3rd and 12, as you can see the corner is draped all over him but since he doesn't gain separation most of the time he needs to catch this ball.

He ran another out and up earlier in the game I'm not sure if the ball was catchable as it ends up out of bounds but Strong failed to gain any separation and the DB ends up in better position to make a play on the ball.

I actually thought KB moved pretty well coming out, plus KB uses his body and his hands to help him create separation.

I will say that although Strong puts himself in tough situations he does make some nice grabs.
