That does not account for the opponent's speed. They may cover in 3 secs but what is the RB is gone past that safety in 3?

You don't necessarily need to know that information. I'm talking purely in terms of covering all areas of the field. You could use this and stagger your DB's and linebackers according to the surface area they can adequately cover in X amount of time.

So say you are game planning against New England and Tom Brady gets the ball out in 2.3 seconds average, you can use the metrics provided and see where best to line your guys up in any given zone formation in order to maximize field coverage in that 2.3 second span.

Not saying it's an end all be all to anything, but certainly seems like it could be a useful tool on a week to week basis to help give a small advantage to the defense.

Wait. Gettleman has a van with fuzzy dice?! Awesome! But embraces new technology?! My kind of GM. Glad the Panthers were in on the program. I can also see a coach like Harbaugh or McCarthy getting real excited by this. Oh, the possibilities. Bet footballs will have sensors on them soon too. :thumbsu:
