One Tackle Off the Market -- Dunlap Re-signs with Chargers

With all of the talk about the tackles at the combine today, one UFA LT gets a new contract and the Panthers have one less option to consider.

 

King Dunlap signs 4 year deal to stay with the Chargers per Rotoworld.

 

King Dunlap - T - Chargers

Chargers re-signed LT King Dunlap to a four-year, $28 million contract.

Dunlap started all 16 games on Philip Rivers' blindside, grading out as a top-25 tackle by Pro Football Focus. A dominant run-blocker, Dunlap made improvements in pass protection this past season, allowing just three sacks. Dunlap will return as a bookend to RT D.J. Fluker. He's now signed through 2018.

You would think so.

 

I can understand a player taking less when signing an extension before their current contract is over, but he was so close to hitting the open market.
