Most impressive interview from day one? #Minnesota TE

Maxx Williams . Owned the room. Confident. Only 20 years

old. Very, very impressive kid

he's one of the youngest prospects in the draft, born April 12, 1994 (turns 21 in April)

2014: 1st Team All-American. 77.8% of his catches resulted in either a touchdown or first down. Led the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns for each of the last two seasons straight - and he set the school single season record for a TE

His father, Brian Williams was drafted 1st R as a C and started 62 games for the Giants

His paternal grandfather, Robert Williams was drafted #332 overall in 1959 as a QB but he decided to go to med school instead

"Williams spent his 2014 season aligned all over the field. He was in the boundary, in the backfield, in the slot, in-line. The various alignments made him one of the most versatile tight ends in the draft. ... He runs routes with unmatched body control for the position ... He’s one of the most complete tight ends to come out in recent years"

NFL Associate Editor at B/R Ian Kenyon @ IanKenyonNFL Jan 5

Maxx Williams has some of the best hands/body control I've

seen from a guy who goes 6'4, 265. He's a stud. ... Gronk-esque prospect.

Football Insiders:

"the one player from this year’s draft class than can make an impact is Minnesota’s Maxx Williams. ... he has the ability to become one of the best tight ends in the league ... he’s going to be a huge contributor for an NFL franchise for the foreseeable future."

Just finished my report.. I think Maxx Williams is a better

Tight End than any of the top four from last season

NFL.com Bucky Brooks @ BuckyBrooks 14h

Maxx Williams is a crafty route runner w/strong hands.

NFL.com Bucky Brooks:

"Williams isn't a household name, but offensive coordinators around the NFL are salivating over his potential as a between-the-hashes playmaker. He is an exceptional pass catcher with strong hands and ball skills. He will remind some evaluators of a young Jeremy Shockey on the perimeter."

Thinking Maxx Williams is a lot like Jeremy Shockey. But

Shockey isn't as athletic.

CBS 7 Missouri Chris Duerr @ ChrisDuerr Jan 1

I can see Maxx Williams being the next evolution of the Belichick Tight End

The FAN FM 100.3 Brandon Mileski @ BMileskiKFAN Jan 1

Vikings should draft Maxx . Williams and Rudolph would be NFC North's version of Hernandez and Gronkowski!

CBS Sports Dane Brugler @ dpbrugler Jan 1

Maxx Williams ' NFL comp is a blend of Jason Witten and

Kyle Rudolph

CBS Sports Dane Brugler @ dpbrugler Nov 15

Also for Minnesota, TE Maxx Williams is the real deal. Witten-

like skill-set. Only a RS soph, but he'd be the No. 1 TE in the

2015 class

Editor-In-Chief draftfalcons.com Scott Carasik @ScottCarasik Dec 27

Maxx reminds me of Jason Witten in so many ways.

Browns blog Dawgs By Nature @DawgsByNature Jan 2

Love the Gophers Maxx Williams at TE. Kid reminds me of

Jason Witten.

ESPN Austin Ward @ AWardESPN Nov 15

Love watching Maxx Williams play tight end. As good as

you'll see at the position.

This scouting report compares him to Rob Gronkowski: "Young for a prospect, Williams has the ability to become a top three tight end by the end of his rookie contract if he develops as expected. Williams is scheme-versatile and could become the rare two-dimensional tight end in today’s game."

the NFLDraft

Seahawksdraftblog.com Rob Staton @ robstaton Feb 15

Maxx Williams led TE's in explosive plays last year. Great character, doesn't drop passes ... when they throw to Williams at tight end, he just had a knack of making it count. Touchdowns, big plays, third down conversions, difficult leaping grabs, one-handed catches. He doesn’t drop the ball

Marcus R. Fuller @ GophersNow Nov 8

Kill on Maxx Williams : "I've never seen anything like it...Been

coaching 31 years, I've never seen a kid catch the football like

that kid."

Minnesota TE Maxx Williams makes a ton of ridiculous

catches.

something completely insane...

The Browns are in need of playmaker & TE Maxx Williams is

emerging as an absolute stud at the combine

CBS Sports Dane Brugler @ dpbrugler 7h

TE Maxx Williams would look great in Denver. Bigger

question though, any chance he makes it to pick No. 28?

Denver Broncos @ Broncos 24h

TE Maxx Williams … 6-4, 254, athletic, great control. Could be

devastating weapon.

So is there a good chance this guy is far and away BPA at 25 potentially?

We know Gettleman loves versatility, big bodies, and the ability to create mismatches. Seems to me this guy checks all of those boxes and the great hands make him an intriguing prospect. Another elite tight end to pair with Olsen and Kelvin may pay dividends faster than the 4th or 5th WR on our board.

Obviously I'd prefer to get this guy at the end of the second but he's not lasting that long. I'd hate this kid in a Patriot's or Seahawks uniform. If we were to pull to trigger on him in the first, then we best get a deep threat in the second or third. I wouldn't hate the pick if Shula can maximize his potential... but I have my doubts about that.

This TE class is awful, I believe its the weakest class currently.

I want to see this guys blocking tape, one on one against above average DEs. Its a known he can catch, I want to know the unknown.

great at both. Comes from a team that was run-heavy

Dan Kadar @ MockingTheDraft Dec 26

understand that Minnesota only threw 221 times this season and ran 566 times.

selection for the next 10-12 years.

Wish he were a little faster...I thought he would run in the 4.7 range. He will still be a lethal weapon in the passing game for the team that drafts him.

he ran a 4.77 on his 2nd attempt, but 40 yard dash times are meaningless for a TE unless you want him as a deep threat. 10 yard split (10 yard dash) is more important (Maxx ran a pretty good 1.63). Also these dash numbers probably might not even be confirmed as official yet.

What is official is that Maxx has both the 3rd longest arms and 3rd biggest hands of the 20 TEs at the Combine. And his 34.5 vertical is better than Gronk (33.5)

everything cleanly in drills.

off the 44 WRs, only 1 had longer arms than Maxx (33 1/2): Chris Conley of Georgia (33 3/4). And only 1 had bigger hands: DeAndre Smelter of Georgia Tech

This is what Hurney said about LaFell's hands:

Former Panthers general manager Marty Hurney, who drafted LaFell, said the one issue about the big, fluid receiver coming out of LSU was "his ability to catch the ball consistently."

"We knew he had small hands," Hurney said. "We must have spent two weeks talking about his hands. But he always made the catches he had to make."

http://m.espn.go.com/general/story?storyId=12175801&wjb
