GM Dilemma: Luke vs Cam

Recommended Posts

Hypothetically:  You keep your QB.  This is a QB driven league.  Luke could go some where, and continue to play at an all pro level, but without quality QB play, he's racking up tackles, not wins.

In reality:  I see the Panthers keeping both.  They are the two cornerstones of this franchise moving forward.  We need to spend in the next couple of years to get to that salary cap floor.  I think we'll be OK.

It's a pointless exercise.  Both are going to sign long-term deals here in Carolina.

But, if you're forcing to choose, the easy answer is Cam.  Franchise QBs are very tough to find and if you have one, you're going to be able to compete.  The best MLB in football is a very nice thing to have, but it isn't a necessity.  If you want to compete for Super Bowls in today's NFL, you have to have a franchise QB.  You can do it with or without a great MLB.

Don't get the point of this since we're going to lock both up, but I'll play along...

Cam. Franchise QB is harder to find and more important than MLB. To prepare for loss of Luke I'd be re-signing Hardy and look for LB in the draft.

Had this thread a little while back, but Cam.

Luke is a Top 5 defensive player right now, but Cam (IMO), is a Top 10 QB, and a franchise QB, which is harder to find. I love Luke, but replacing a MLB is a helluva lot easier than finding a QB with Cam's talent/potential.

Luckily for us, we should never have to worry about this hypothetical, because both will be offered huge contracts to stay

Real world I keep both and lose other guys. If we keep drafting well a good GM will part with really good players. If you hit on tons of good draft picks you either start letting some guys go or handicap your team wanting to keep them all

One thing that doesn't get mentioned much, if ever, is how perfectly Cam and Luke oppositely parallel each other and yet both are the face of our franchise.

One the leader of the offense, the other the leader of defense.  One embraces the superstar image and highly charismatic, the other doesn't even have cable and largely keeps to himself.  One is constantly (and unfairly) criticized by the media/general population, the other is the media golden boy.  One is black, the other is white.  One takes up the Superman persona, the other actually looks like Superman.  They're both the future of our franchise.

They're like fuging Yin and Yang or some poo.

I am nitpicking.

Luke's nickname at BC was Clark Kent. He looks like Clark Kent.

the inevitable loss of one? we can't keep both? lol

1) the cap is supposed to go up quite a bit in the next couple years thanks to the new TV deal money coming in

2) we are projected to have such a low cap number heading into 2016 that we'll be forced to spend a lot just to reach the the cap minimum.

we are set for keeping both without crippling the team.
