NBA Trade Deadline Thread

I'm really pissed off at the Lance signing right now.

He's hopeless for the remainder of this year. The only way we can salvage next year is if he comes into the season already prepared.

Our team is set next year except for draft picks. As poor as Al has played, I don't see him opting out of 13.5 mil.

Unless we're able to move someone like Marv, our roster for next year is already in place except for our first round draft pick.

Even though Al has played poorly,at this juncture of his career, the length of the contract is more important than the money, as this is his last opportunity to cash in on a long term deal.

I agree 100%. I think he will opt out. It will be his last chance at a say 4 year deal worth pretty good money. For him it would be like agreeing to play under the franchise tag and risking an injury.

Depends on his mindset. I could easily see him opting in and retiring after his contract is up.

I find it hard to believe that he would get more than a 4X9 at this point of his career. But it he does... Don't let the door hit ya on the way out.

I get why we didn't make a move today, but seeing these other eastern conference fringe teams making moves has me pissed at one person - Lance. He went from prized FA to complete dud in a few months, and now we're stuck with the son of a bitch.

Only team in the east that got better was Miami. Everyone else just swapped players. Detroit is back to where they were with Jennings except without Dj who is a solid backup PG. Milwaukee will take a step back offensively with MCW.

Hornets already made their move. Just need to get healthy and we'll be fine.

This is a guy that has agreed to free agent deals with Utah and Charlotte. If any player is looking to cash in it's him.

He will definitely get something around Kemba's salary if not more. If you're a young team looking for respectability he's a great piece to have.

Personally what I think you're failing to see is that because he's not the same Al, he won't get the same type of contract.

Not to mention he has been struggling injuries the past two years and may very well want to call it quits after next year.

I also don't see him getting another four year deal. In fact I'm willing to bet that he gets a three year deal with an option if he chooses to opt out (I don't see it happening).

I hope he does because I'd love to snag Greg Monroe from Detroit.

And I think you're failing to account for the irresponsible spending of a majority of GMs. Look at some of the contracts that just changed hands. Heck, we are paying Marvin Williams 7 million dollars and he can't even do what we brought him in to do consistently (not his fault that we have miscast him.)

You're talking about what he SHOULD get. I'm talking about what he WILL get. Especially in this market, those don't exactly go hand in hand.

We're going to have to agree to disagree because you are basing Al's contract on what he was, not what he is.

Notice that most of these players that are getting these huge contracts are young players.

You're clearly not factoring in Al's age, his injury history over the past two seasons, and the fact that this years free agency center crop is stacked (B. Lopez, B. Biyombo, T. Thompson, T. Chandler, A. Varejao, B. James, G. Monroe, T. Duncan, A. Jefferson, R. Hibbert, J. Hill, D. Jordan, M. Gasol, K. Koufos, A. Bargnani, S. Dalembert, O. Asik, K. Perkins, N. Vucevic, R. Lopez, and many more).

There are so many free agent centers that the price will be down. So Al won't except a 4X10.5 from Philly. Maybe they'll just go get Asik for a 3x7.5.

Are you starting to get the picture? There are multiple factors that go into a contract that you currently aren't considering.

The center class is bad in free agency. Lopez isn't opting out, he will make like $16 million next year. Varejao and vucevic have already been extended. Duncan either retires or goes back to the spurs. Gasol isn't leaving that good Memphis team. That leaves Jefferson (even if you consider him done, which I do, many gms will still overvalue him), Chandler, Hibbert, and a ton of marginal players.
