Vikings GM; We expect AP to return. What universe is domestic abuse worse than child abuse?

Why did they put the tag on him last season and say he was a piece of the puzzle?

Is it truly because of this case that they wont have him back?

Per Voth, they looked at him as a one year rental for a possible Super Bowl run because they overestimated the team's chances coming off the previous year's performance.

If I'm being absolutely honest what AP did is in many cultures considered discipline.  And that goes across ALL races.  Granted it seems he went to far but whoopings are a thing that I would say 75% of children deal(t) with, including myself.  Any whooping I got was one that I saw coming and could've avoided had I behaved as I had been warned.  If my parents had told me "they would punish me by taking away a game" I would definitely have rebelled.

This is SPECIFICALLY in regards to whoopings to try to raise a kid. Not closed fist punching/ slamming children and taking anger out on them.

Hitting a woman is inexcusable.

his kid was still basically a baby, when is leaving whelps on a baby's legs discipline? Yeah I was whipped as a child as most of us, but not a baby.  AP should be embarrassed for this and so should those that use the discipline defense.

Abusing a child is worse than abusing an adult. A child has no control over their situation and could not leave even if they wanted to. It also has lifelong impacts which at times are passed on to their own children, and the cycle just continues.

Sadly society often does not see it this way because there is such a disagreement on what is abuse, which simply shows that to many do not understand kids. They may think they do because they have kids, but they do not.

The worst response is "I got hit and turned out fine." Most of us think that we are just "fine, " but there really is no way of knowing how "fine" one turned out without traveling to some alternate universe where they were not hit for a comparison.

I don't think it's even close. Let me preface by saying the obvious that I am anti domestic violence and there is no excuse for hitting a women, but I don't think the two crimes are close. In my eyes what adrian Peterson did isn't even in the same conversation as what Hardy and rice did. Hitting a defenseless child who cannot stand up for themself at all is as disgusting and low life as it gets.

didn't he just spank his child with a switch? Probably just like he got switched when he was a kid

Personally, I don't think most adults are smart enough to understand the psychological, physical, or emotional impact a child experiences when beaten.   To me, it reflects a lack of communication skills on the adult, it teaches violence as means for adults to solve problems (probably leading to domestic abuse later), and it crushes self-esteem.  Who really considers the long-term effects of beating a child?  Nobody.  They think it is effective because they get instant gratification and results, with little regard to damages.  My children are great--they do not fear me.  They are all-county athletes, they are honor roll students, and we have great relationship.  I never once hit either of them for any reason.  If people think that beating children is necessary, it is probably due to the fact that they are confined to a concept they were subject to but did not invent--in other words, they are trapped by blind tradition.  And about the, "I turned out fine" defense--if you endorse beating children, did you?

Oh, and yes,  The child was physically scarred and bloodied.  Read the details and you will see that he crossed the line--assuming it is necessary to have one.

Hit an adult with a switch, it is assault and battery.  Hit a child, and it is parental discipline.
