Who are the best Panthers Defensive Ends All-Time?

The problem with evaluating Peppers will always be whether he approached his potential or does he get dinged because he took plays off and sometimes whole games. Much like Benjamin or Newton, when you are a physical anomaly you are often judged more negatively than your peers if you never reach your potential.

That's Greg Hardy. Only difference is Hardy has the on field mindset we wanted from Pep. I'd really be sad to see the guy go. For whatever reason, to me, it would be Pep 2.0, a huge loss in my eyes. This guy is the althletic freak that JP was but nastier on the field and funnier off the field. Oh well...

Came here just to say

Forget Peppers he was

Ugly as hell and

Could never reach the

Kind of potential he should.

Julius could have

Penned his own check.

Every

Penny he's made since makes me want to

Puke.

Even now he

Rakes in money to

Sort of care.

If I was in the NFL and played in a city where I was constantly called a freak and constantly criticized for not trying hard when my athletic ability made my performances look effortless (hence, the "freak" aspect, right?) then I would try to GTFO as well.

Maybe this fan base will learn after they run Cam off. Naaah, not that smart.

Let me say that my list was not to slight Peppers. I still love the guy and his jersey is hanging in my closet.

I just feel like Charles Johnson's leadership role and consistency slightly edge him over Peppers. If we are just taking about who just had the most talent, then Peppers would have won hands down. However, there are so many other things that make a great football player instead of stats and ability.

Might be better to ask who are the best Panthers pass rushers of all time, since we ran a 3-4 defense for the first few years that featured OLB's like Kevin Greene and Lamar Lathom.

Hardy just tied Greene's 15 sack season franchise record, so you can't really have this conversation without mentioning Greene but he wasn't a defensive end - but you couldn't include Green in a best LB ranking either.

The reason I didn't is because he was mentioned as a linebacker in a best linebacker thread a while ago. I would rather rank positions than skill sets.

Am I the only one who would put Hardy over Rucker?

Nope, I definitely would too.  It's not even real close.  All things considered, I think Hardy might be a better DE than Peppers.  He's the total package.  Peppers never got 15 sacks...and Hardy is as good against the run as he is rushing the passer.  Not saying Peppers wasn't good against the run, but I'd probably give Hardy the edge there.  And Hardy is 100% hustle all the time.  Only reason I don't feel comfortable saying flat out Hardy is better is because Peppers played at a high level for a long time.  Hardy is still rising, but unfortunately we may not get to see how good he can become as a Panther over some bs bureaucracy.
