The Combine: J. Jones' speculation about possible prospects, including a WR that's making some noise

The Charlotte observer's Jonathan Jones gives a few possible prospects that may be on the Panthers' radar.  You have this years's much ballyhooed OTs that make me think of Morgan Moses and Cyrus Koundjio of last year (because of the hype, mind you). And then you have Shaq Thompson, who would be just the type of player that may fit very well here and fulfill a need or two, and could be a G-man-esque type pick. As such he should probably be on the Huddle's radar.  You also have a guy who some may already know, Kevin Johnson, being that this is ACC country.  I have to admit that I really didn't know about the Wake Forest CB, or this WR, who apparently has been making a name for himself (and, again, should probably be on the Huddle's radar):

Breshad Perriman, WR, Central Florida: Perriman has generated more buzz than perhaps any other prospect in the past month. A Central Florida standout, Perriman has the size at just under 6-foot-3 as well as the stats after averaging more than 20 yards per catch in his final two seasons. A good testing day at the combine could make him a first-round pick.

Interesting.

Breshad Perriman looks like a really good WR.

He looks big and strong, and he catches with his hands.  I was reading the first article that came up which was by Shannon Owen-Greene of the Orlando Sentinel who quoted Mayock

I put the Perriman tape on about three weeks ago and almost fell over. [inaudible] People tell me that he doesn't have good hands and boy do I disagree with that even though he's got drops than he should. So there's kind of a way to interpret that, a wide receiver that has too many drops should have bad hands, right? Well, I look at his hands and say he makes acrobatic catches, he makes high point catches, he makes contested catches, however every once in a while he drops an easy ball. But I think he's a natural hands catcher. I think he's got height and weight, I think he runs good routes...To me, he looks like a first round wide receiver. I need to see what he's gonna run this weekend. If he runs, a 4.5, 4.48, 4.51, people are going to be looking at him as a potential first round wide receiver and they should.

Dude may be a beast. I will definitely be noting his 40 and other drills.

I really really want Shaq or Landon Collins at 25. Very doubtful either will be there though.

I would love for Landon Collins to be there when we pick. He will be that complete safety that we need in the back end who can play the run and cover. I think Shaq Thompson has a good chance being there when we pick.

dude looks like a beast. could be a terror to try and bring down after he has the ball in his hands.

Agree. This draft is deep and loaded at some positions. I don't know what position or the player the Panthers will draft in the first round but i can bet you it's going to be a interesting discussion. Free agency will give us a chance to see how the Panthers really wants to build this team.
