DJ Humphries - OT Florida Gators

Recommended Posts

Don't like the thought of picking a developmental OT as #25 with better players on the board.

When you look at all the descriptions of the OT the mocks, it just screams reach. All these guys would be late 1st Round, 2nd Round if they came out last year, except Schreff who is kinda like Zach Martin. (OG not OT)

Greg Gabriel, who was a scout for Giants 1985-2001 before spending 9 years as Director of College Scouting for the Bears (2002-2010):

his prospect focus on Humphries concludes:

Humphries "is quite ready to be a day one starter. ... and he could become one of the better left tackles in the league"

Todd McShay's Mock 4.0 came out today and he has us taking Clemmings over Humphries, writing: "Clemmings fits best as a right tackle...he can be something of a liability in pass protection at times." He has Humphries going 3 spots later to protect Peyton Manning, writing: Humphries "projects as a left tackle ... the Broncos really struggled in pass protection, which is Humphries' strength."

the OL in his 1st R:

#9 The Scherff - "a major upgrade at left tackle"

#11 La'el Collins - "needs to improve some in pass protection but..is very effective as a run-blocker"

#18 Cameron Erving - "could step right in to replace C Rodney Hudson"

#19 Ereck Flowers - "could fit in at right tackle or at guard"

#21 Andrus Peat - "has all the tools to develop into a good starting NFL left tackle...and Cincy's starting left tackle, Andrew Whitworth, is a free agent after the 2015 season."

#25 TJ Clemmings - "Clemmings fits best as a right tackle...he can be something of a liability in pass protection at times."

#28 Humphries - "projects as a left tackle ... the Broncos really struggled in pass protection, which is Humphries' strength."

makes no sense. we have no one proven to play LT and have a more than serviceable Rt. yet he has us taking a RT who is not great in pass pro when we need a LT.

The latest mock (Mar 24) by Eric Edholm of Yahoo Shutdown Corner has us taking Humphries.

his OL in the first 2 Rounds:

#9 Andrus Peat - "could be some teams’ fourth-rated tackle but might appeal to the Giants for his right-left tackle capability"

#11 The Scherff - "bull-strong Scherff could be a Day 1 starter inside or at right tackle"

#16 La’el Collins - "especially tough in the run game and can assist an offense that likely will remain ground-heavy... can play tackle or guard and likely would be a Day 1 starter inside at guard for this team."

#18 Ereck Flowers - "fits the Reid mold for linemen and can factor in at guard and tackle"

#19 Cameron Erving - "appears pegged to be an NFL starter on the inside. Although the team has Alex Mack, fresh off a huge extension a year ago, at center, the Browns can walk away after the 2015 season and not owe him a dime in dead money. Erving can project to either guard position, too, and could help make a great group up front with emerging star Joel Bitonio."

#25 Humphries - "could be a perfect positional and mentality fit for what the Panthers need"

2nd Round

#33 T.J. Clemmings - "could be a Day 1 starter for a team wanting to re-establish a ground game."

#41 Jake Fisher - "First-round type of talent fits the athletic mold the Rams seek up front."

#56 Cedric Ogbuehi

I don't see us reaching for an OT, especially not in the first round. we signed offensive linemen who are all upgrades over what we already have.

we are going to get a stud day 1 starter in the first round and I'll bet it will be a defensive player like Owa or Shaq Thompson.

if we are looking for developmental ayers, we'll be looking in the later rounds and In the UDFA pool.

if you don't know Dave Gettleman by now...you just don't Getts it.

Chaz Green OL UF was team captain and has played at every position along the line. there's no reason why we should reach for a tackle who may not ever see the field before his rookie contract is up, when every college in the country has a starting LT on their roster.

trust me, there are more than 5 or 6 potentially starting LT, who may be upgrades over Oher in the NFL. we need starters in the first 3 or 4 rounds...otherwise, we are simply treading water instead of heading for the finish line.

The ninth annual SB Nation NFL Writers Mock Draft is pretty cool. The SB Nation blogs for each team play GM in the draft

They started ten days ago and are currently at #27 overall

The OL they selected in the 1st R so far:

#5 La'el Collins - "the best offensive lineman in this draft"

#9 The Scherff - "the best offensive lineman in this class"

#17 T.J. Clemmings - "arguably the BPA, and he allows RT D.J. Fluker to bump inside to RG"

#18 Andrus Peat - "need a RT replacement by next season. Enter Peat ... He’s also a bit of insurance on the left side depending on how Eric Fisher’s development goes."

#20 Jake Fisher - "could immediately fill in at guard before moving out to right tackle in the future, if/when LT Jason Peters retires and RT Lane Johnson takes Peters' place at left tackle."

#23 D.J. Humphries - "adding him at left tackle, the Lions could move Riley Reiff over to right tackle, which may be a better fit for him. In essence, taking Humphries would help upgrade two starting spots on the offensive line, and that would go a long way toward getting this unit back to a respectable level after a dismal 2014 season."

#25 Ereck Flowers - PANTHERS - "keep him at left tackle. ... The Panthers should feel lucky to land a player like Flowers this late in the first round, which happens only because the draft is deep at tackle. Yet it’s not so deep to rely on a player sliding to them in the second or third round."

MMQB/Peter King decided to do a mock draft to "put to use some things he heard last week at the league meetings." He says he won't be doing another mock until a few days before the Draft.

The OL in his 1st R:

#9 Scherff - "is the best offensive lineman on everyone’s board"

#12 DJ Humphries - "the second-best tackle prospect on many boards."

#17 Andrus Peat

#23 Cameron Erving - “Second-best offensive lineman in the draft, to Scherff,” was the word in Phoenix from one GM

#25 Ereck Flowers - "The Panthers have a few needs, but the one at tackle cries out for an instant fix."

#28 La'el Collins - "Good value for the spot"

#29 TJ Clemmings

Jayson Braddock @ JaysonBraddock

Apr 1

-I've said for months that Bud Dupree & DJ Humphries deserve

more love. Seems like Peter King is hearing the love from

scouts / teams.

-Behind Dupree & Humphries, I'd also add RB David Johnson &

DT Eddie Goldman as 2 more guys that deserve more attention.
