Does Hardy situation scare panthers away from Green-Beckham?

I'm not one to judge a young kid on "youthful transgressions" but,i am of the thinking our brass might not want to deal with someone who has already been knocked for putting hands on a woman. We all know his baggage but could this one incident in particular already count against him with us because of hardy?

Me thinks even if we did not have the Hardy situation, this guy would be off limits in the draft. In 1998 Randy Moss was viewed as untouchable due to his "youthfulness transgressions" which were less over the top than Beckham's. I don't think Richardson has softened since then.

I think the Hardy situation is going to sit there as a gremlin on the FOs shoulder for the next few years. You could see the impact it had on Gettleman during his PCs and whether he admits it or not, he never wants to risk putting himself in that position again.

Not saying that impacts our chance of drafting DGB completely, but subconsciously it may drop him a couple of points on Gman's big board.

First and foremost DGB's transgressions will play the primary role in his evaluations by our FO. Hardy's situation may be a passing thought, but it will ultimately be an afterthought.  I don't believe that the Panthers FO will be scared away because of Hardy's situation, or DGB's past problems enough to discount DGB out of hand in light of his effort to improve last season.  An OU source called Green Beckham a a "once-in-a-decade" talent for a reason, and I believe that G-man is going to make sure that due diligence is done on this kid.  I also believe that provided that DGB has a good combine, including interviews that greatly lessen fears of any future bad behavior, I think that DGB will be invited to work out.  From there, I believe anything is possible. If all the pieces fall into place and DGB falls to our pick, I believe that he will be our pick.

Hardy's influence on DGB will be minimal.  What will be key is what the team learns about his transgressions when doing their due diligence.  In situations like this, what the media reports is almost never completely accurate, and often way different that reality.  So, much will be determined by how bad those transgressions really were, or were they somewhat overblown.  Then he would still have to have a very good interview and alleviate any concerns.

 

So the chips are definitely stacked against him coming here...especially with this team which tends to lean conservative.  But consider this, if he is able to alleviate our concerns, then he will likely be able to alleviate the concerns for several other teams.  And that would mean he will most likely not be available at 25.

I believe it was bill polan that stated this " anytime a player gets kicks off a team, he let the coaches, teammates, and school down ". Then bill takes that guy off his board. Its very very hard for a great player to get kicked off, they are given chance after chance. Lying would part of the problem by now too. HC- "dgb you can t fail another test, u understand" dgh- " no way this time, I mean it, I swear to god I will not fail another drug test"...... two weeks.... fail.

He's talented no question, the risk is high too. Without the woman/drug problems, he would have been a near top 5 lock.

I told this story in the All-Pro section that is known within the Panthers...

 

 

Jerry Richardson walked into the draft room in 1998 and took Randy Moss' name off the board and threw it on the ground and said...we aren't drafting him. We drafted Jason Peters instead.

-The guy clearly likes pot (along with a good % of the league) so you'd have to assess if he's willing to take it easy on that end or at least be aware of testing and whatnot.  

 

-And the alleged stair incident is just weird but he was never officially charged.  But his girlfriend's texts that were released make it sound kind of fishy.

 

It's a big risk, massive reward.  The interviews will be the most important thing for him this offseason.

DGB has not been i trouble in a year. like i stated in the last DGB thread, he has had a tough upbringing, bouncing from foster homes, and group homes as a kid growing up. he has not had the structure of a house hold, which i think plays a major role into him getting into the poo that he did. is this an excuse, no. but considering he has not been into trouble since going to Oklahoma, maybe he understands now, and finally grew up.

 

the talent is worth the risk, if everything checks out. again, i tip my hat to Jerry Jones, for not allowing Dez to fail. give DGB the same treatment, hire a security team, that will drive, and stay with him 24/7 until he shows and proves he can handle himself to be alone.

 

with that being said, i would be surprised to see the panthers have any interest in him. panthers love nice guys, that play football.

      You and I both know there isn't a coach we could or can still hire that can "fix" Bryce Young. Even at mighty Alabama with one of the best modern coaches in college football history Mac Jones was still a better QB than Bryce Young. Mac Jones.... We already know how you feel about Canales on a personal level so in that regard you wanting him fired is not news. You don't have to disguise it behind this shroud of rabble about not fixing Bryce Young. To his credit he somehow had us competive against the Chiefs and the Eagles on the road with #9. But no coaching staff can overcome their starting QB turning the ball over 4 times. We definitely have developed some of our younger offensive pieces. And as far as Evero goes he has earned criticism and if he's fired so be it but in his defense many of us said in the offseason this defensive roster was a disaster waiting to happen given the resources we spent on the offense while neglecting the defense. That was Dan Morgan's plan. He swung too hard toward offense to salvage the Bryce Young trade. That's on him. We can scream about XL all we want but at least he's actually been on the field for the most part. The Brooks pick was a luxury pick at the time and now it is a Hurney level blunder. Dan Morgan has gotten a lot of early praise here when in reality he's unequivocally deserving of significant criticism. But if you say that some people get up in arms because he's a former Panther. Big whoop. He has just as much to prove this upcoming season as Canales. That's why to me in my own personal opinion I say one more season and then if it's more of the same say goodbye to both.

      It's a decent vid with compelling reasons for his opinion. But, my thing is is that you simply can't draft McMillan thinking he is a surefire WR1. There are questions. His 40---rightly or wrongly---will play a part. I'd think that his splits (which will speak more to his game translating to the pros in my mind) are more important.  As much as you're trying to sell us that McMillan is a don't-overthink-it-type-of-player, I wouldn't say that's the case. Workouts will play a part in all of this.  At this point, I like the thought of Tetairoa. That's as much as I can give you right now.
