Contract speculation for different WR FAs from the Sporting News

Many people are saying that we should get this guy, and we should sign that guy to upgrade our receiving corps.  Well, here is kind of a very general guide by Jason Fitzgerald, an NFL cap specialist, that should give you a realistic footing as to what some of these guys will be looking for and getting paid.

It really doesn't take into account whether or not the person is realistically leaving, or whether they will be tagged. It only gets you in the vicinity of some ballpark figures.  As for whittling down which receivers are realistic targets for us---which hopefully this will help some of you finally do---you can work it out in your own minds.

As for me, I am sticking with the Denarius Moores and Kenny Britts of the world, and maybe even Crabtree.

Younger options that would probably sign three-year deals in the $3 million per year range include Cecil Shorts III, Kenny Britt, Denarius Moore and Niles Paul.  Teams are hoping to catch lightning in a bottle by identifying hidden skills in this group that mesh with their team offense. Most would be targeted by teams that are either strapped for cap space, or teams that have a relationship on the coaching staff with the player.

We could realistically draft a couple starter quality WRS as well. The draft is deep. However, Moore and Britt are intriguing free agent prospects.

We have a lot of options. This could be a very exciting off season for us.

Wouldn't be surprised if DG doesn't even address WR as ridiculous as that sounds though.

$3 million for Britt? That would be a great deal.

That's apparently the market.  When I did that little Fanspeak  thing, I got him for something like 2.75 mil per year with 10 mil guaranteed  (for either 4 or 5 years).  I also signed Moore to a similar deal, though slightly less.

I really don't see us touching Britt with The falcon's dick, especially if we move on from Hardy. Completely different issues, but still negative PR potential all the same.

Moore and shorts are two guys I could get behind us signing. I'd prefer Moore though, and then draft a guy as well.

The real question is if DG feel like a vet will be that much of a upgrade to a rookie. Last year rookie WRs proved to produce a lot even more then veterans, so DG could feel like drafting two WR's could benefit even more then bringing in another veteran. Plus rookies could save money also. Plus if DG is planning on drafting a WR in the 1st or 2nd to be the number 2 or 3, he needs to seriously really think very hard about who to bring in because veterans demand playing time. Someone on the depth chart won't be happy.

I don't think that G-man is going into the draft saying that we are going to draft this guy or that guy---this position or that position.  And, really, I don't believe that he'll have all of his workouts done, or tape watched before most of the guys worth getting in FA are gone.  This is pertinent because he believes in filling needs with FA so that he doesn't have to draft based on need.

True, it's not realistic to have all the workouts done, but DG wants speed and one way to get speed is to get young. Yes some vets are fast like Ginn, which I would love to see back as a punt returner, but attacking the line in FA is smart. If WR is addressed in FA it need to be someone like Ted Ginn. Drafting a WR for the 2 or 3 spot would be more of a benefit.
