Steve Wilks promoted to Assistant Head Coach

Strawman

"While most of the NFL coaching jobs are filled, some teams are still fiddling with titles and re-assigning guys.

The Panthers gave a promotion to one of their own, naming secondary coach Steve Wilks assistant head coach."

I know a lot of you guys are attached to mcdermot, but wilks is who Rivera origionally wanted at DC when he took the job in 2011.

Wilks was stuck under contract in SD at the time, where he and rivera teamed up to make a #1 defense with a bunch of scrubs.

When mcD leaves, we wont miss a beat. In fact, i bet we get better. This move to assistant HC just solidifies my notion of how highly respected this guy is..

Wilks had a large hand in our very young secondary playing very well down the stretch

Agreed. I like McD, but I have no problems letting him walk to a HC job if he gets one after this year.

    • They reached for Pickett, so they are not immune to it.  I could see that as well.  I just think the Colts are flying under the radar and they have been too quiet concerning their QB situation--of course, they could think Jones is their guy (they had a good one named Jones a long time ago) but I think they are done with the Richardson experiment.   Even if I believed in Jones, I would still draft a QB--I also read one mock that said the Jets would take Sanders if he falls to 7---I disagree, but I was once wrong and it still bothers me.
    • I just switched to prime video with fanduel south. Will I be able to watch the Canes playoff games still?
    • I mean, you can use that "logic," but the problem is that most practice squad players, backups or average guys don't put the play on film that Wharton did when given their opportunities.  Perhaps you'll end up right, but I don't think that just because a guy has been in a rotation makes him inherently less productive because he gets more snaps. I will say that the KC fans I've seen on social media loved him, and considered him their second best DT,  regardless of his "rotational" status, and generally considered him a dawg, so I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt until he shows otherwise.
