More Coaching Changes (Steve Wilks)

Wilks took over many of the head coaching duties last month on the day that Rivera’s house caught on fire the week of an NFC playoff game.

It was Wilks who passed along the message from Rivera to players and other staff members that it would be business as usual while Rivera stayed at home to handle issues from the fire that caused $500,000 in damages.

This is smart. McDermott will probably get a HC gig after this year. Wilks is probably the best guy equipped for the job (as much as I love Eric Washington).

Wilks was Rivera's first choice for DC, but San Diego refused permission since he had one more year on his contract.

McDermott wound up with the job after getting canned by the Eagles, essentially for not being Jim Johnson (plus Andy Reid needed a scapegoat at the time).

Wilks bolted (no pun intended) to the Panthers the following year, but as DB Coach rather than DC since that spot was taken. He replaced Ron Meeks, who Rivera really only kept as a placeholder anyway.

True, I've never really looked at the difference in pay. I just know if I was at that level I would only care about winning. And I think our organization is on the cusp of greatness for the next 5-10 years.

Understand what your saying but.........new HC's usually sign something like 4-5 yr deals for 4-5 mil. per.

so you roll the dice and pocket 16-20 mil no matter what happens......guaranteed.

if you fail......... you dust yourself off and pick up a new gig.

Please don't remind me of Meeks.

Every DC since Jim Johnson has been heavily criticized in Philly.  This does not hold much weight in any direction with me.
