All-time worst Panther starters?

Those putting DeShaun Foster as all time worst are just hating on him for not panning out. He had legit top 10 talent. HIs career was ruined by injuries much like other Panther RB's. Sure he was a disappointment but the ability was there for a time.

Foster. Deangelo, TIm B and Stewart are probably the most talented RB's we've ever drafted and you can make an argument that each one is a bust. Personally the worst has to be either Smart or Robinson if you put them in a starting role. At least Foster could take it to the house in his prime.

I don't even consider him a disappointment. He plays a position at high risk for injury and he delivered some memorable performances for us. He could have been more but he could have been less. Eric Shelton was a real disappointment.

Norberto Davids-Garrido, Chris Terry, Rashard Anderson, Greg Lloyd (one leg and all), Jay Williams, Matt Willig, Corbin Lacina, Ernie Mills (hands of stone, worse than Dwight Stone himself)....God we've had some awful OL.

Lacina was a guy I was about to mention. I was looking back at our previous seasons starters and was like Corbin who? Then I remembered the awfulness that is Bernadeau. I can't even remember Corbin which means he probably was pretty bad.

Lamar Smith could be fair enough, sure. It's just the YPC is so bad.

2005 Stephen Davis was not just a short-yardage back. He and DeShaun Foster were a tandem, yes, but Davis started 11 games out of 13 played, and averaged about 18 carries through the first 9 games. His carries did not drop below 10 until week 10 against Chicago, and even the two games where he and Foster both had 10 carries (Minnesota and Tampa), Davis either had more carries (Minnesota) or was by far the more effective back (Tampa, with a 2.4 YPC vs. Foster's 1.4). Foster did not become starter until Davis was injured. In regards to first downs, Davis had a 1st-down percentage of 17%. That's only marginally better than Foster and the lowest of his career.

Hackett did indeed start two games - weeks 1 and 2. He sucked in both of them, hence why he is listed.

Mare had a a full season to suck, but actually only directly influenced two games - the 29-34 loss to Chicago (where he missed two kicks) and the 21-24 loss to Minnesota (where he missed one kick). The other games he missed kicks in (Tennessee, Indianapolis, and Atlanta) finished with scores that could not have been influenced by a single kick. In Tennessee, we lost 3-30. In Indianapolis, we won 27-19. In Atlanta, we lost 23-31. In none of these would a field goal have really helped us (aside from Atlanta where it would have meant a TD would have won). Mare never missed field goals in consecutive games, and was also fairly consistent in kickoffs. Medlock, on the other hand, missed a field goal in three consecutive games (each game having only one attempt), and was abysmal in kickoffs even with them being at the 35. I think a full season of Medlock would have been worse than Mare.

Ron Edwards barely played due to injury, and when he did I really don't think he was that useful.

What I was looking at: Davis averaged 5.5 ypc on third down, and 3.1 ypc with less than 3 to go on any down. Also, he carried 20 times only twice (compared to 2003, when he carried 30+ times in four games).

Filling in for a suspended player doesn't make another player a starter, no matter how bad he played against Chicago.

Mare forced us to punt from where we now kick field goals. Medlock only missed from 40+. Mare would miss chip shots

You probably have a point about Ron Edwards being worse than I remember, but he is far from being anywhere near the worst starter at DT.

in the 31-23 loss to atlanta, mare missed a field goal.

the very next play for atlanta was a 76 yard TD.

do the math and we would have had the lead 24-23 and who knows what play selection the falcons have and if it leads to another TD.

was pretty late in the 4th too.
