the pictures he posts on facebook are out of this world beautiful. he said the culture reminds him of asheville in that city too.

SC coast or New Mexico or remote places in Utah or Idaho.

Durango, CO and Santa Fe, NM are two favorites I've visited.

I lived in Napa when I came back from SE Asia in the mid-70's. I'd definitely move to the Russian River area, it hasn't changed at all in 40 years...
