yeah hes been through a lot of poo. hes a HOF talent.. but no one but a panthers fan will acknowledge that.

numbers ... rings...

hes not in. he needs two more seasons just like this to get in.

everyone else in the football world will not consider testiverde, moore, st. piere,  clausen

he chose us over HOF.

he could have been Brady's right hand man in the HOF, but he chose us..

thanks smitty much respect

I don't see why they couldn't just move smitty to the slot no sense in forcing him to retire. Marshall/T. Smith on outside with smitty in the slot is about as good as you can ask for

Not to mention he's repeatedly stated he wants to play slot.

I'm sure winning a super bowl is higher on his list.

And btw with all the sh*t he's had to deal with while playing here and he still has the numbers he does he most definitely deserves to get in

Actually, during the 2013 season, SS said on WFNZ that he preferred individual stats over team success. He said he was in pursuit of personal greatness and he needed stats to get to canton. Canton will not happen for 89. smitty is all about smitty, always has been, always will be. I for one am glad he's gone, and honestly do not want to see him retire as a panther.

I don't know I think he's got a chance of getting in even without 2 more 1,000 yard seasons.  Sure his numbers may be a bit lower than the rest but as long as he reaches 1,000+ receptions and gets over 14,000+ yards I think he gets in.  I believe they'll take into account that he is only 1 of 3 players in the Super Bowl Era to receive a triple crown.  He is also only 5'9 and DOMINATED in run first offenses.  He was able to get the Triple Crown while being on a team that threw the least amount (Delhomme was #32nd in pass attempts IIRC during the '05 season).  That is insane.  Maybe I'm a little more optimistic about it than you guys, but I believe he's going to get in.

Half the "poo" he has been through was self inflicted. I was and am a Smith fan but why am I supposed to feel sorry for him? He has a hell of a life. 13 years with your first team is nothing to complain about.

I wasn't even talking about the fights with teammates did I say steve smith was a perfect human being? No I did not. I was talking about all of the shitty offenses he had to play in. He was our only threat on offense for YEARS and he was still able to put up the numbers he has is a feat of it's own.

Steve is one of the few great Wrs that did not get to play with a HOF qb at any point in his career. A lot of the top Wrs of all time all benefited from playing with either a really good qb or a HOF level qb. I believe that is something you have to take into account.

Totally agree with this. Should make it without another yard. IMO. But it's just my opinion.....so.....

Something to consider in the Smitty Hall of Fame discussion...

With guys that aren't automatic entries because of dominance, numbers, championships, etc. the most common way to get in is to have someone from the media champion you for induction.

Given that Smith's relationship with the media has always been a little thorny, do we think there's someone who would step up to do this?
