Could Meeks...

Does he have a choice? No chance for bend but don't break with the thin line.

the db's really have to step and create a ton of turnovers.

Also, the offense playing ball control is the D's other weapon right now.

We are gonna need Old Peppers to show up also. He really need to take on those two blockers like he has in the past. That will help alot IMO.

im 6'8'' 290...i will sacrifice myself every by hurling my body at the left tackles knees every game in the first quarter at the cost of being tossed so that we have an easier time getting to the qb....i would require unlimited beer after the hit, and a club level ticket to watch the rest of the game

If we get 5 games into the season and Meek's defense turns out to be worse than Trgo's, I think Fox will get the boot...at the end of the season.

The miracle that Meek's cannot perform is saving Fox's a$$ if things get wildly out of hand (300 yd performances by RBs; giving up 30+ points a game). If we continue to suck it will be because Fox is dictating the defense and Meeks is just standing by with a whistle and a clipboard.

I have not seen anything from this defense that makes me think we have an aggressive scheme, however, I realize that we have been playing out of the exact same formation every down and not blitzing in pre-season.

I am really looking for something in the first quarter this week that will PROVE that all this talk about "it's preseason...don't worry" is justified... namely some QB pressure from the d-line. Honestly, I don't care if a back gets around 100 yds on us per game, as long as they don't break off the 20 and 30+ yarders. I want to see some press coverage and I want to see our safeties BREAKING UP some passes!

Meeks has never had a very good run D, but what he has had is excellent pass defense and although clock management is important and you don't want to give up the 20+ yd runs, most of the points come out of the passing game. I think we have some of the personnel to run the Tampa 2...but not at all positions, esp at Safety.

If this is gonna work, Peppers is gonna have to get 15+ sacks and Johnson/Brayton/Brown need to combine for that many. I just don't know if that is a realistic expectation at this point.

I am starting to think 10 wins is out of the question.

Question: Was Darwin Walker that horrible last season? I remember him wanting to come back but the Panthers had zero interest.

Before his accident, it seemed like he was making some plays in his limited action (maybe not). I know he is not what he used to be, and he is not the solution to the problem, but seems like he could be a positive influence on the younger guys that are not stepping up.

Before everybody panics too much... remember how the Panthers ran all over the Colts last pre season? Well, that Colts defense finished the season ranked 11th in the league and gave up only 4 more points than the Giants defense did in 08.

That's not to say that we don't need another DT, or that everybody shouldn't be a little concerned about the tackling so far, but let's not freak out too much over pre season games.
