Pats and the Draft

I was thinking the same thing... Gman seems to do this much more than our previous GMs, much to the chagrin of the huddle draft know-it-alls

Ya it's easy to get caught up in the emotion of it all and G'man seems to take emotion out of it.

Not sure if you read the article or not. 90% of it is about manipulating the draft, not so much players, just dropping back and accumulating picks

I understand but we are trying to fill positions with BPA and trading back defeats that purpose. We still need to build our core. UDFAs across the roster means we need home runs in the draft.

I would love to have a full roster without question marks so that we could hoard draft picks however we'd want to do it, we just don't have that luxury yet.

Imagine how good the Pats could be if they had a really good college scouting/personnel guy?

BB is one of the better football minds, but talent evaluation out of college is not his strong suit.

I haven't really ever paid that much attention to his actual draft result success, but he's damned good at FA evaluation.

He sure does acquire lots of draft picks, but rarely selects anyone of note with them. He's far better at finding old free agents who fit his system than he is at scouting rookies.

He friggin picked Lawrence Mauroney over Deangelo Williams.

Seems as he takes so many picks to really weed out who is worthy or being there or not.

I wish we could get draft picks like the Patriots can. You can say the pats suck at drafting players but because there are so many factors it's a crap shoot. I do believe they draft good enough to win 4 Super Bowls.

I still get pissed about how Hurney kept trading away our future 1st and 2nd round picks for a few years in a row. Thank God he still isn't our GM.

Let's be real here. Much of Belicheck's ability to acquire average talent and still win is directly due to Brady. They do have a good system of dink and dunk and have used their offense to overshadow that for much of the last decade their defense has been middlin at best especially during the regular season. Plus they have played in a crap division for years and have the distinct advantage of playing home games in incredibly cold poor weather when it matters most.

Their drafting considering all their picks has actually been pretty average to poor IMO.

Herinay panic during the draft and leading up to it. Dave doesn't have this issue, cause he fills out the roster before hand. Thus when you say "I'm taking the BPA", you can and do so. Brown, edwards, and pickles where done to replace peppers, jake, and moose. Herinay was under pressure to win and gambled using draft picks.
