JPP's price is going to have to be right.  He has had some injury issues the past few years.  He can be a dominate pass rusher, but he's had a lot of inconsistencies.

If I'm a FA DE, I have to give Carolina a look.  Good DT depth, a strong belief in pass rushing being the key, and a great MLB behind you.  It might be worth it for your career to spend some time here, maybe make a home here.

I think athletes who are concerned with their legacies should think about taking less to play for a winning team rather than a boatload to play in a place like Oakland, Jacksonville, or Cleveland...  At least I would were I a pro athlete =)

People are forgetting that we have Frank Alexander coming back.  Hardy is probably gone because we can't afford two high-dollar DEs, Cam's contract, and Luke's the following year.  If we're not going to pay for Hardy, why on earth would we pay for JPP?

Next year's rotation will be Johnson/Star/Edwards or Cole/Alexander with our current backups plus another second-tier or rookie d-lineman, probably a DT.  And it will be fine.

Our system is much different than KC's. We're in nickel or buffalo package way more than base 4-3, so we never have LBs rushing the passer unless blitzing. Houston wouldn't fit here very well. He would be valuable at a certain price but this is a guy who came half a sack away from the single-season sack record. He'll be making way more than he could ever be worth to us even if it's his fair value. Plus many expect him to be a Chief for years to come so talking about him is kind of irrelevant.

I see where Houston could fit, but he would not be on the field enough to justify his salary because your reasons are reality.  The reasons you describe above are possible because we have a front 4 that can pressure the passer and stuff the run, 2 LBs who can cover, come up and hit, and get sideline to sideline.  With a rather weak (but getting better) secondary, this has been the secret to our success on D.

In other words, we need the OLB spot (in the 4-3) in pass protection more than in run support or pass rush.  It also is a reason we are not as vulnerable to screens.    I see how Houston would work here, but I really think forcing him into the mix would ultimately hurt us and cost a ton of cap space.  If we had Seattle's secondary, it could be different. Just my thinking, anyway.
