Are we really arguing about City spending 10m above market value? Really? Sterling is talented but has a long way to go to reach his potential ceiling. If he hits it he'll easily be worth the 50 million and one of the Spanish teams will likely pay 70 plus by that time for his services. If he doesn't then everyone will laugh at City for the business. That's really all that matters. Whether him being English factored into the decision to purchase really has no relevance. If they only wanted to buy an English player they would buy an end of the bench roster spot who logs less than 10 games throughout the season. This transfer is more about Sterling's ceiling than his nationality, and that's pretty damn obvious. Denying and downplaying Sterling's talent because of bias is pretty asinine.

In my book Sterling is no different than Ross Barley 2 years ago and Walcott 4 years ago or Rooney, Wilshere and etc.  There's always "prospective English superstars" that never quiet kick into another gear.  If Sterling can prove himself that be great... But after watching multiple Liverpool games last year, he was inconsistent as hell.  He looked like he took a step back from previous year when he was lights out.  And I know Rodgers used him wrong but I only judged him when he played LM and RM.

Still don't get the Sterling valuation.  7 goals and 7 assists + attitude issues does not equal £50m to me.  I think Memphis Depay is already better and has a higher ceiling for the BPL given his body type and play style(Sterling's style is better suited for La Liga IMO) and they only payed £25m.  But I enjoy seeing Man City overpay for players, they haven't signed anyone who has really been worth the money they paid for them in 2-3 years.

 

On and btw, £32.5m for Benteke.  Come on Liverpool, what are you doing?  A guy who already seems like he has peaked and has been having fitness issues.  And people wonder why it has been a decade since they have won anything of note.

Arsenal got Alexis Sanchez who plays same position as Sterling after he scored 21 goals and 11 assists and was only 25 years old for £31m.  Let that sink in.

I watched Xtra point on BEIN and they were talking about Sterling.  There's actually an agency that puts fair market value on players.  Sterling was valued at £35m.  They also said the only reason City was willing to pay that because they needed attacking midfielder after Milner left and they needed English player because of CL rules.  Do your research.

Arsenal have Francis Coquelin who played lights out last year and Cazorla plays number 10 and he's one of the best at that position...  Spain even made him a permanent starter at that position.  Arsenal needs a good back-up if Coquelin gets hurt...  Wenger could of signed Vidal if he wanted too...  See, the delima is...  Do you stop progress of Coquelin or do you bench Cazorla?

play all 3? vidal is a younger and arguably better option than santi and definitely better than coquelin. but given arsenals trouble with injuries (esp to wilshere), why not add vidal? at the least it gives you depth in cup competitions.
