2015 Summer Transfer Thread

Look few posts above where CL requires home grown talent.  City will buy 1-3 garbage players and they were destine to buy one English National team starter.  They were interested in Wilshere and Sterling but Arsenal told City Wilshere is not for sale. So that's left Sterling.

Use google and u will see that infact the only reason City were going crazy after Sterling is because they lost a lot of home grown talent and 2 of them were regular contributors/starters.  City lost 3 midfielders so Schneidelin would be the only option but Schneiderlin had his heart set on Manure.

Sterling fair market value was established at £35m after 2015 season.  City had to pay £50m because Liverpool knew Manchester City wanted Sterling and will pay £50m because Sterling is homegrown.

Being English was a bonus for City signing Sterling. Not the main driving factor.

Being English is the only justification for such an outlandish bid...

he had some pretty bad moments last year but his potential is still insane.  was also played out of position by a very poor manager.  of course if ever does reach his ceiling he will want to be in spain asap

Apparently during the interview Benzema was asked if he would join Arsenal if bid is accepted by RM... Benzema refused to comment.

Come on Madrid, buy Reus.  Buy somebody!  Make Benzema expendable.

You may get your wish...

you keep telling this to ur self

I'm a United fan. I'd love nothing more than for City to drop £50 mil on a talentless lump that's only redeeming quality (in City's eyes) is that he is English. Sadly this isn't the case and they paid fair value for such a talented player.

they also got another Englishman from Fulham, young kid named Patrick Roberts.

oh yea... Micah Richards ( another Englishmen) also left on free transfer...  This makes sense.

fair value?  He's valued at £35m... City paid 40% more than his fair market value.  40%...

Valued at £35 million by who? The only thing that sets a value in football is what a team is willing to pay. In this case City are mega rich and can buy who they want if they think the player is talented enough.

Either way they haven't purely bought Sterling because he is English. They bought him because he is talented, being English is just extra gravy.

I watched Xtra point on BEIN and they were talking about Sterling.  There's actually an agency that puts fair market value on players.  Sterling was valued at £35m.  They also said the only reason City was willing to pay that because they needed attacking midfielder after Milner left and they needed English player because of CL rules.  Do your research.

I think they were looking at available English talent and saw Sterling would fill that requirement while being more than just an end of the bench player. And since MC has ridiculously deep pockets, they were willing to sign him for more than he was worth.

I don't need to do my research. It's on the news every day. I know exactly what is happening. You've added 2 and 2 and made 5. Do you honestly think they spent £50 million on a player because he is English? Of course not. They've signed a highly talented player that happens to be English so fulfills another requirement. If they wanted English so badly they would have bought somebody a hell of a lot cheaper that would be a warm body for training purposes. Instead they bought a talented player and paid the English premium for him.

The value your 'agency' puts on players is as relevant as the value I put on players. The only true value is what teams will pay. There is no salary cap in soccer. Only supply and demand.

I honestly have no idea what news you watch.  Even Real Madrid lost interest after City bid £40m.

i posted poo load of sources few pages back where everyone said MC paid crazy amount of $$$ because Sterling is Englishman.  Show me one credible source where it says Sterling talent is worth £50m like you preach.
