Panthers "Ready to Spend" ~ Bert Jensen

I really think Gettleman will take one gamble and toss out a decent amount of coin at a FA.  He might swing and miss, but I could see him possibly opening the pockets for either King Dunlap or Jeremy Maclin.

Maybe toss out an offer, but nothing mind blowing. I think Getts dips his toe in the water to see if it's possible, but without crippling our cap.  Who knows.... maybe Maclin wants to play with Cam?

I think Getts knows that he needs a veteran LT, and sees if he can pull in Dunlap with his VIC card savings, maybe?

I think both of the above mentioned players could sign for big money by a team that has deeper pockets, but I do believe Gettleman will test the waters and make an attempt.  His comments seem like he wants to, but doesn't want to risk the future at the same time.

I know I'm the only one who feels this way, but I'm uneasy in regards to Cobb.  I rarely, if ever, see a receiver go from an elite QB and offense like that of Green Bay and recreate the same success.  I'm not saying he's not a good receiver, but how many of the receivers on the end of Peyton Manning passes have excelled in other systems?  Tom Brady?  Drew Brees?  I'm in no way saying Cam isn't an good QB, but he's not an elite passer, I'd say he's an average passer and elite runner, and his TOTAL game is what makes him an elite QB.  Watch, it will be someone like Shorts out of this Free Agent group that has the most upside in the long run.

What kind of WRs has Cam been working with? Look at any Elite QB and there will be good WRs and RBs all around him. Very few QBs can make bad WRs look good. The only one in the past decade I can think of was Drew Brees who is losing his touch and thats why the Saints are failing. Give Cam a burner to go along with KB and Philly and you will see how much of a difference it makes. People forget before Ginn left for AZ he was a nobody that was strictly a PR/KR guy. Cam made him look like a good WR and Ginn gave Cam a deep threat.

I saw in one thread where someone was saying that Smitty may convince Torrey not to come to Carolina but I think the opposite could be true...I think having played with Smith could make him want to come him.

I do think Torrey Smith is a bit too inconsistent though and he tends to disappear for games at a time.
