There are other factors at play here.

Mostly we have to make choices. Like Cam and Luke, or Hardy.

You knew how this thread would go.  This is a fanbase that anoints a player starting material immediately after one tackle or a catch in practice, so obviously we have tons of replacements for one of the best run and pass defenders in the league.  Also, he's immediately guilty when accused, even though this state is a joke when it comes to these type of cases and it was basically NC's type of arraignment.   Our fans turned on Hardy because the media did, they didn't turn on Smith because it wasn't a big thing, just more of media brain washing the masses.   Our team is definitely hypocritical and as I mentioned in another thread, is why we'll always be mediocre while teams like the Patriots and others take chances on high talent guys with some issues.

Steve Smith was a cancer hated by everyone in the organization except Jerry Richardson for some unknown reason and he managed to stay on this team for 13 seasons despite assaulting fellow teammates MULTIPLE times in front of dozens of witnesses both times. He essentially ended both guys' careers. He stayed in part due to elite talent.

But yet Greg Hardy, who was also charged with a misdemeanor assault charge (with no eyewitnesses mind you), is getting booted out the door? Despite how godly he has played in recent seasons? Despite still being young, despite playing a much more important position than wide receiver?

Can someone please help me make sense of this? Smith had his misdemeanor assault charge dropped too, but only after he entered a deferred-prosecution program. Greg Hardy won't have to do a thing and charges have been immediately dropped period. What the hell?

89 has never been an off field risk. He was an on field and lockerroom risk. Every team has hit heads that struggle to control emotions in comptitive situations.

If 89 had off field issues....I believe he would have been gone long ago.

No, I think in the NFL.....off field issues are looked at different than guys who struggle with emotions in a football context. Talent makes one of those easier to deal with. Every NFL team had multiple fights this past season.....will always be part of football.

The off field stuff is different. And yeah, two dudes fighting DOES get viewed different than hitting a chick. That isn't a debate

Yeah I was in a rush and didn't phrase it properly. Still the thread title suggests a historical view of this subject is forthcoming with arguments against Jerry's consistency. You cannot give two unrelated events and try to argue consistency. There needs to be a series of incidents laid out to make a point. The thread title was intriguing, the execution was insufficient.

Stop!! Steve sucker punch 2 guys who had no clue it was coming. ... it wasn't a normal football fight.. he sent to people to the hospital and got 2 game suspension. . Richardson bowed to the media,   he was scared of his team and the NFL shield getting tarnished               Before the media went on a crusade against Hardy  Richardson and Goodell didn't make a peep about Hardy or his situation    

 

 

Had the Panthers deactivated Hardy for the first game,  before the media  went into full retard mode,  I would've had a little more respect for them    Doing it when they did it though,  just made it seem like they were cowering.

 

I get the distinct feeling that many of you are ignorant of this entire situation BY CHOICE.
