Team Needs and Roster Rankings.

Evan Silva on Rotoworld.

Panthers come in at 13 which is

pretty fair. Says ideal free agent WR would be Torrey Smith. Starting to like that idea more and more although I love Eddie Royal as well. Also mentions need for a 3rd cb to go with JNo and Bene.

"13. Carolina Panthers

OT: The 2014 Panthers were lucky to get as far as they did with such poor offensive line play. The unit did come together a bit down the stretch, but LT Byron Bell never stopped being a liability and is now a free agent. Planning to sign Cam Newton to a mammoth extension, Carolina can't afford to keep surrounding him with rag-tag blockers.

WR: The Panthers badly need speed at wide receiver. Kelvin Benjamin paid dividends as a 2014 first-round pick, but is short on separation and run-after-catch skills. Going on age 33, Jerricho Cotchery is best suited to play slot receiver at this stage of his career. I personally believe free agent Torrey Smith would be an ideal addition.

DE: Charles Johnson, Kony Ealy, Mario Addison, and Wes Horton form a solid defensive end nucleus, but Greg Hardy's off-field misdeeds stripped Carolina of its lone dominating edge pass rusher. Hardy's contract is up, and the Panthers seem likely to move on.

DB: RCB Bene Benwikere, LCB Josh Norman, and FS Tre Boston are solidified as promising young starters, but Carolina desperately needs a third cornerback, and a safety to upgrade on 32-year-old Roman Harper. At this stage of his career, Harper would be best utilized as a linebacker in dime packages."

Interesting factoid from last night.  The Patriots only first round pick on offense was Nate Solder.  19 out of 32 teams have a first rounder at LT.  It's time we get with the program...NOW...er, April.

can't just reach though....the last time we drafted for need/reached we ended up with Fua and McClain.

That ought to become a draft mantra....Remember Fua.

    • I don't really like the phrase, "moral victory". I get what's meant by it, but does that mean that if you do the opposite (play poorly but win) it's an immoral victory? 🤔
    • I blame Evero because he is overrated. Vance Joseph created the defense in Denver that he took credit for. Wilks ran the ball down his throat and Darnold had a 103.8 rtg.  Last year we were decent in yards allowed, and horrible in everything else. Only reason? We kept giving up good field position.  He's had his choice of players to bring in since his scheme is so "complicated." Maybe he should stop trying to be so fancy like running Cover 4 on 3rd and 1 earlier and focus on fundamentals like tackling. These years of Eric Washington, Phil Snow, and Evero must have gotten you confused on what a real defense looked like. Go back and watch the McDermott and Wilks years- this dude is sofT.
    • I tried to make it a point in the opening post that I don't think the offense is a finished product. I think we still need more talent at WR, better play calling, catch more consistently, elimate ridiculous penalties,  and be more consistency in scoring points. I'm just saying, they look markedly better than last year imo. They have scored 20 or more in 6 games and 30 or more in 2 games. And that's particularly notable considering they only mustered 10 points and 3 points in first 2 games of this year and they got blanked on 0 points two games in a row to wrap up last season . I'd say that's a market improvement.  I'm not crowning them and saying we have a top 10 offense or anything.  I'm comparing them to themselves in recent history.
